The current assembly of Haryana is the 14th legislative assembly. It was constituted after the 2020 Haryana Legislative Assembly election. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the election with a majority of 40 seats, and Manohar Lal Khattar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana for the third consecutive term.
The 14th Haryana Legislative Assembly has a total of 90 members, of which 87 are elected from single-member constituencies and 3 are nominated by the Governor. The term of the assembly is five years.
The BJP won 40 seats in the 2020 election, followed by the Indian National Congress (INC) with 31 seats, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) with 10 seats, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with 1 seat. The remaining 8 seats were won by independent candidates.
The BJP formed the government with the support of the JJP. Manohar Lal Khattar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana for the third consecutive term on 27 October 2020.
The 14th Haryana Legislative Assembly is the first assembly in the state to have a woman Deputy Chief Minister. Dushyant Chautala of the JJP was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana on 27 October 2020.
The 14th Haryana Legislative Assembly is also the first assembly in the state to have a woman Speaker. Gian Chand Gupta of the BJP was elected as the Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly on 28 October 2020.
The 14th Haryana Legislative Assembly is a diverse assembly with members from different political parties, castes, and religions. The assembly is expected to play a vital role in the development of the state.
