A. Discus Throw is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disc as far as possible. The discus is a flat, round plate with a diameter of 22 centimeters and a weight of 2 kilograms for men and 1 kilogram for women. The athlete starts by holding the discus in front of their body with both hands. They then rotate their body and release the discus, trying to throw it as far as possible.
B. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 22-yard (20-metre) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The game proceeds when a player on the fielding team, called the bowler, “bowls” (propels) the ball from one end of the pitch towards the wicket at the other end. The batting side has one player at each end of the pitch, with the player at the opposite end of the pitch from the bowler aiming to strike the ball with a bat. The batting side scores runs when either the bowler unfairly bowls the ball to either side of the wicket (unfairly throwing the ball is called a “wide”), or alternatively when the ball reaches the boundary of the field. The fielding side’s aim is to prevent run-scoring and dismiss each player (so they are “out”, and are said to have “lost their wicket”). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the wicket and either dislodges the bails or knocks the wicket over, being caught, when a fielder catches the ball after it has been hit by the bat, and run out, when either the bowler or a fielder runs out the batting player at the opposite end of the pitch. When ten batsmen are dismissed, the innings ends. The team that scores the most runs wins the match.
C. Chess is a two-player board game played on a checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. The game is played by millions of people worldwide. Chess is believed to have originated in India in the 6th century AD and spread to Persia. From there, it spread to Europe and the rest of the world.
D. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five players each try to score points by throwing a ball through a hoop elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is a hoop at each end. The hoop is located at the center of a backboard, which is a rectangle elevated 10 feet above the ground. The court is divided into two halves by a mid-court line.
Seema Antil is not associated with any of the above sports.
