INS Vikramaditya is an aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy. INS Vikramaditya is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier acquired from Russia. It was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 2013. Aircraft carriers are warships that serve as a mobile airbase for carrier-based aircraft. They allow a naval force to project air power across the world without depending on local bases for aircraft. India currently operates two aircraft carriers, INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant.
