Ricky Ponting is an Australian former international cricketer who captained the Australian national team in all three formats of the game. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.
Ponting was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, on 19 December 1974. He made his Test debut for Australia in 1995 and his One Day International (ODI) debut in 1996. He was appointed captain of the Australian Test team in 2004 and the ODI team in 2005.
Ponting led Australia to victory in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, and the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy. He is the only player to have scored more than 13,000 runs in both Test and ODI cricket. He is also the only player to have scored more than 40 centuries in both formats of the game.
Ponting retired from international cricket in 2012. He is currently a commentator and analyst for Fox Sports.
