Statement 2: Ali Akbar Khan was the son and disciple of Padma Vibhushan Baba Allauddin Khan, the founder of the Maihar Gharana of Hindustani classical music. He rigorously trained in this tradition and further propagated it.
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan was instrumental in popularizing Indian classical music in the West. He founded the Ali Akbar College of Music in Kolkata, California, and Switzerland. He received numerous awards, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, and five Grammy nominations.
