Altitude sickness is caused by exposure to low partial pressure of oxygen at high altitudes. At higher altitudes, the atmospheric pressure is lower. This results in a lower partial pressure of oxygen, which reduces the amount of oxygen that can be taken up by the lungs and delivered to the body’s tissues, leading to hypoxia.
