International Dance Day is celebrated annually on April 29th, which is the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), a French choreographer and balletmaster considered the creator of modern ballet. The day was established in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI).
