INS Vikrant is an aircraft carrier. INS Vikrant (IAC-I) is India’s first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier. It was commissioned into the Indian Navy in September 2022, marking a significant milestone in India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative and enhancing the Navy’s blue-water capabilities. INS Vikrant is the largest warship ever built in India. It is named after its predecessor, India’s first aircraft carrier, which was acquired from the UK and served from 1961 to 1997. INS Vikrant operates a mix of aircraft, including MiG-29K fighter jets, MH-60R helicopters, and other naval aviation assets.
