General Bikram Singh served as the 25th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army from May 31, 2012, to July 31, 2014. He was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry, which is an infantry regiment. Prior to becoming COAS, his appointments included General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Eastern Command (2010-2012) and GOC XVI Corps (Nagrota). The GOC-in-C Northern Command at the time of his appointment as COAS was General K. T. Parnaik.
