The correct matching of the historical National Highways with their routes is A-3, B-2, C-4, D-1.
NH-2 ran from Delhi to Kolkata, NH-4 from Thane/Mumbai to Chennai, NH-7 from Varanasi to Kanyakumari, and NH-8 from Delhi to Mumbai.
India’s National Highway numbering system was updated in 2010, and the old numbers were changed. The new system is based on the direction and geographical location of the highways. However, questions in older exams like this one refer to the previous numbering system. NH-2 is now largely part of NH-19 and NH-44. NH-4 is split into various new numbers like NH-48 and NH-548. NH-7 is largely part of the new NH-44, which is now the longest highway in India. NH-8 is now largely part of NH-48.
