Ram Dayalu Singh was the first speaker of Bihar Legislative Assembly. He was a member of the Indian National Congress and served as the speaker from 1947 to 1952. He was born in 1892 in the village of Singheshwar in the Saran district of Bihar. He was educated at the local schools and then at the Patna University, where he obtained a degree in law. He started his career as a lawyer and then entered politics. He was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1937 and served as a minister in the government of Shri Krishna Sinha. He was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. He died in 1968.
