He expanded the Mughal Empire to its greatest extent and brought peace and stability to India. Akbar was also a tolerant ruler who promoted religious harmony. He died in 1605 at the age of 63.
  • Jahangir (1569-1627) was the fourth Mughal ruler. He was the son of Akbar and succeeded him to the throne in 1605. Jahangir was a pleasure-loving ruler who was more interested in art and music than in politics. He was also a heavy drinker and opium addict. Jahangir died in 1627 at the age of 58.
