He has also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University and as the Chancellor of Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University.

Nitin Patel is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He has served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021 and as the Minister of Finance, Revenue, and Excise in the Gujarat government from 2002 to 2016.
