The Limbdi princely state was situated in the present-day Surendranagar district of Gujarat. It was founded in 1628 by Rao Khengarji I, a descendant of the Jadeja Rajputs. The state had a population of 230,000 people in 1901 and a revenue of Rs. 1.5 million. It was ruled by a hereditary chief who bore the title of “Maharaja”. The Limbdi princely state was a member of the Kathiawar Agency of the British Raj. It acceded to India on 15 August 1947.
