S. D. “Shantanu” Narayen (born October 16, 1962) is an Indian-American business executive who is the chief executive officer (CEO) and chairman of Adobe Inc. He has been CEO since December 2005, and chairman since November 2017.

Narayen was born in Hyderabad, India, and received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Osmania University in 1984. He then moved to the United States to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he received a master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science in 1986. After graduating from Berkeley, Narayen worked as a research scientist at Rockwell International for two years. In 1988, he joined Silicon Graphics as a product manager. He held various management positions at Silicon Graphics until 1995, when he was appointed vice president of worldwide marketing.

In 1998, Narayen joined Adobe as senior vice president of worldwide products and engineering. He was appointed president and chief operating officer in 2005, and CEO in December of that year. Under Narayen’s leadership, Adobe has become one of the world’s leading software companies. The company’s products are used by millions of people around the world for creating, editing, and sharing digital content.

Narayen is a member of the board of directors of Adobe, Alphabet Inc., and the World Economic Forum. He is also a member of the U.S.-India Business Council and the Indian School of Business.
