The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojna (PM-SYM) is a social security scheme for unorganised workers in India. The scheme was launched on 29 September 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The scheme is open to all unorganised workers in the age group of 18 to 40 years. The monthly contribution to the scheme is Rs. 55 for workers in the age group of 18 to 29 years, Rs. 100 for workers in the age group of 30 to 39 years and Rs. 150 for workers in the age group of 40 to 40 years. The government will contribute an equal amount to the account of the worker.

The benefits of the scheme include a monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 after the age of 60 years, a lump sum amount of Rs. 2 lakh on death of the subscriber and a monthly pension of Rs. 500 to the nominee on death of the subscriber before the age of 60 years.

As of 31 March 2022, a total of 2.5 crore workers have been enrolled under the PM-SYM. Of these, 1.2 crore workers are from Uttar Pradesh. The top five districts in Uttar Pradesh with the highest number of nominations under the PM-SYM are:

  1. Dehradun (10.5 lakh)
  2. Ghaziabad (9.5 lakh)
  3. Noida (8.5 lakh)
  4. Meerut (7.5 lakh)
  5. Agra (6.5 lakh)

The scheme has been well-received by the unorganised workers in Uttar Pradesh. The high number of nominations from the state is a testament to the popularity of the scheme.
