Keeping the development of the pharmaceutical sector on high priority, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed on establishing a Pharmaceutical Research and Innovation Institute in Uttar Pradesh.
During a high-level meeting held on Wednesday, the chief minister emphasised the significance of promoting pharmaceutical research and gave necessary directions for setting up a new institute in the state.
The proposed Pharmaceutical Research and Innovation Institute will focus on research and innovation while acting as a bridge between other institutes and industries related to the sector, the chief minister said.
Uttar Pradesh is currently the sixth largest state in terms of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, but the chief minister aims to make it the leading state in the country.
The states contribution to pharma manufacturing in the country is currently 2 per cent, which needs to be increased to 10-12 percent to achieve the numero uno position.
With high-level research institutes like IITR, CDRI, CIMAP, and NBRI already functional in the state, along with academic institutions like SGPGI and KGMU, Uttar Pradesh has great potential for Growth in the pharmaceutical sector, the chief minister added.
