It is a government-sponsored scheme administered by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
It all started in 1985 with the Ganga Action Plan (GAP).<\/p>\n

It was expanded in 1995 as the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) to include the country’s other major rivers.<\/p>\n

The aim of the National River Conservation Plan is to reduce pollution loads in rivers by implementing various pollution abatement projects, thereby improving water quality.<\/p>\n
