{"id":3580,"date":"2024-06-14T00:12:31","date_gmt":"2024-06-14T00:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3580"},"modified":"2024-06-14T00:12:31","modified_gmt":"2024-06-14T00:12:31","slug":"panel-formed-on-sc-status-for-dalit-christians-dalitmuslims-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/current-affairs\/panel-formed-on-sc-status-for-dalit-christians-dalitmuslims-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Panel formed on SC status for Dalit Christians, Dalit\nMuslims: Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/union-government\">Union Government<\/a> has filed a fresh affidavit before <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/the-supreme-court\">The Supreme Court<\/a>, through the Ministry of Social  and <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/empowerment\">Empowerment<\/a>, stating its current position on the inclusion of<strong><u>Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims in the Scheduled Castes list<\/u><\/strong>and on the petitions challenging the constitutionality of Para 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, which allows only members of <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/hinduism\">Hinduism<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/sikhism\">Sikhism<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/buddhism\">Buddhism<\/a> to be identified as SCs.<\/p>\n<p>The Union government said it had examined the issue and noted the demands from Dalit Christian and Dalit Muslim communities for inclusion in the SC list and accordingly formed a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/three-member-commission-to-look-into-granting-sc-status-to-dalits-converted-to-other-religions\/article65980113.ece\"><strong><u>three-member Commission of Inquiry headed by former <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/chief-justice-of-india\">Chief Justice of India<\/a> Justice K.G. Balakrishnan<\/u><\/strong><\/a>to look into all aspects of the matter.
