{"id":3086,"date":"2024-06-14T00:03:07","date_gmt":"2024-06-14T00:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/current-affairs\/?p=3086"},"modified":"2024-06-14T00:03:07","modified_gmt":"2024-06-14T00:03:07","slug":"right-to-clean-environment-recognized-by-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/current-affairs\/right-to-clean-environment-recognized-by-un\/","title":{"rendered":"Right To Clean Environment Recognized By UN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a Unanimous vote, United Nations <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/human-rights\">Human Rights<\/a> Council declared a clean, healthy &amp; sustainable <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/environment-notes-for-state-psc-exams\">Environment<\/a> as a universal right On 8 October.<\/p>\n<p> <strong><u>Highlights:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p> The right would be first recognized 70 years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in 1948 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/un\">UN<\/a> General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p> The Right was first started in the 1972 Stockholm Declaration.<\/p>\n<p> The resolution was followed by a campaign led by 13000 civil <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/society-notes-for-state-psc-exams\">Society<\/a> organizations &amp; indigenous peoples groups, 90,000 children, private sector stakeholders and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.<\/p>\n<p> <strong><u>UN resolution<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This resolution highlights the Rights to life,  and security of human rights defenders working in environmental matters. They are referred to as environmental human rights defenders. <\/p>\n<p> The resolution also called on nations to expand their facilities to improve the environment.<\/p>\n<p> The right was passed by 43-0.
