Around 72,000 startups have registered themselves under Department for Promotion of  and Internal Trade (DPIIT&#8217;s) <a href=\"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/startup-india\">Startup India<\/a> scheme in the last six years (2016-2022) with 2022 alone recording 12,341 registrations nationally, minister of state for commerce Som Prakash said.<\/p>\n<p>Maharashtra topped the job creation list with more than 1.46 lakh people employed at the state&#8217;s startups. Despite housing the country&#8217;s tech hub, Karnataka was a distant second with over 1.03 lakh jobs, and Delhi ranked third with 87,643 jobs. The total number of employment generated is self-reported by the startups recognized by the DPIIT as of June 30, the minister said.
