{"id":15199,"date":"2025-04-03T18:55:15","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T18:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/current-affairs\/?p=15199"},"modified":"2025-04-03T18:58:45","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T18:58:45","slug":"afspa-extension-in-northeast-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exam.pscnotes.com\/current-affairs\/afspa-extension-in-northeast-states\/","title":{"rendered":"AFSPA Extension in Northeast States"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>AFSPA Extension:<\/strong> The Central government has extended the &#8216;disturbed area&#8217; status under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 in parts of Northeast India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manipur:<\/strong> AFSPA extended in Manipur, excluding areas under 13 police stations in five districts, for another six months.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nagaland &amp; Arunachal Pradesh:<\/strong> AFSPA extended in parts of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh until 30th September 2025.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reason for AFSPA:<\/strong> The Act was originally implemented in 1958 to address escalating violence in the Northeast that state governments couldn&#8217;t control.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Powers Granted:<\/strong> AFSPA grants armed forces personnel in &#8220;disturbed areas&#8221; special powers, including the authority to use force (even lethal), arrest without warrant, and conduct searches without warrant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protection from Prosecution:<\/strong> Armed forces personnel are protected from legal proceedings for actions taken under AFSPA without prior sanction from the Central Government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AFSPA Extension: The Central government has extended the &#8216;disturbed area&#8217; status under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 in parts of Northeast India.
