In a setback to the state gov’nment, the Centre made it clear that it has cleared Upper Bhadra project in Karnataka only by following the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT-I) award.
It said that the Cwc had conducted an extensive study into the Detailed Project Report (DPR) before stamping its nod. The Centre had recently declared Upper Bhadra as a national project and granted financial assistance. Subsequently, the filed a Writ Petition in theSupreme Courtseeking injunction to stop Karnataka from using 29 tmc ft water fromTungabhadraproject in violation of KWDT-I.
