In a bid to enhance facilities for players in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government is gearing up to establish the UP Sports Authority, taking inspiration from the successful model implemented in Gujarat.
The proposed authority will function as an independent unit and the Sports department has prepared a comprehensive proposal which will soon be presented to the cabinet for approval. Once authorised, the process of setting up the sports authority will commence, making UP the second state in the country to establish a State Sports Authority, following Gujarat, a senior government official told this reporter here on Thursday.
Until now, sports-related programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting athletes have been undertaken through the Directorate of Sports in the state. However, the government believes that an independent unit is necessary to further develop sports in UP, enabling better facilities and fostering player encouragement.
The government envisions numerous benefits with the establishment of the sports authority. Players can expect access to modern equipment, improved dietary provisions, advanced training facilities and specialised sports medicine centres.
