Through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, not only people are being given houses, but efforts are also being made to empower the poor and deprived families by giving benefits of various schemes of the government, said by Director, Directorate of Urban Development, Vijaya Jadhav, , in a dialogue programme on housing here on Tuesday.

Jadhav said that before the Amrit Mahotsav organised to commemorate 75 years of independence, one has to directly communicate with the beneficiaries about the implementation of various schemes of the government and be aware of their views. Along with this, they have to be linked with welfare schemes. She said that Women are also being provided co-ownership under PM Awas Yojana, so that they can be given their due. Giving information about the objective of the Samvad programme on Awas, she said that the objective of the programme is to provide a platform to such people, who are underprivileged and who are playing their role indirectly in the PM scheme.

Giving information about the urban housing scheme, she said that it has a total of four components. Of them, three components are being worked on in the State. So far 1.57 lakh houses have been sanctioned. Out of this, 77,000 houses have been completed. The construction of 50,000 houses is going on at a fast pace. She said that 46,000 landless people have been given houses. And, the government has identified the slum area and approval has been given for 15, 817 houses in such areas.

expert Gurmeet Singh said that work is also being done at the conversion level. Social mobilization has also happened through social audit. There has been awareness among the people about the scheme of the government.
