The Information Technology and e-Governance department has prepared a proposal for setting up cyber forensic laboratories in at least six of 24 districts in Jharkhand to combat cybercrimes and track down perpetrators of crimes against women committed with the use of cyberspace, officials said.

These labs will be used for conducting forensic tests on various electronic gadgets such as mobile phones and computers recovered by the Police from crime scenes and help the law enforcement agency solve cybercrimes as well as crimes of other nature, officials said.

According to a source from the IT and e-Governance department, the labs will come up at Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Jamtara, Palamu, Giridih and Dhanbad. The department, according to sources, will also sign an MoU with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), an organisation involved in research and development works in the field of information technology.
