The Chhattisgarh government has built more than 30.6 lakh structures in drains and rivulets of forest areas under the Narva Vikas Yojana.

Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar said the construction has been done for water conservation in the forest regions under Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA). They will treat about 12.69 lakh hectares of land.

The Centre gives financial assistance to states under CAMPA to promote afforestation and regeneration activities as a way of compensating for forest land diverted to non-forest uses, the Minister said.

For 2019-20, water conservation works worth Rs 160.95 crores were done and 1,829 km of drains were treated. Around 4.84 hectares of land would benefit from this, he said.

Similarly, for 2020-21, construction works for water conservation is going on. This will cover 4,160 km of drains.
