Survey Launch: Telangana’s Backward Classes Welfare Minister, Ponnam Prabhakar, inaugurated a comprehensive door-to-door survey aimed at assessing socio-economic, political, caste, and educational data across the state. This initiative is conducted by the State Planning Department.
Focus on Caste Census: The survey addresses a gap in caste data, last collected in 1931. Minister Prabhakar highlighted the importance of updated caste-related insights to inform state policies and welfare programs.
Enumerator Role: Over 85,000 enumerators are assigned to cover approximately 1.17 crore households. Each enumerator is tasked with visiting 150 houses, interacting with the head of each household, and recording data on a two-part Socio-Economic Survey Form.
Survey Details Collected: Information spans personal and household demographics, including religion, caste, marital status, income, employment, and welfare scheme benefits. Optional details like Aadhaar and banking information are also collected.
Caste-Based Occupations and Health: The survey includes questions on caste-based occupations, health risks linked to these jobs, and benefits received under reservation and welfare schemes.
Privacy Assurance: Minister Prabhakar assured citizens that all collected information would remain confidential, urging participation without concerns.
Implementation Timeline: Stickers will be placed on houses starting November 9, marking completion, with the survey results intended to help tailor welfare initiatives to community needs.
