WhileTelanganawas always known to be a leader in deceased organ donation (cadaver), comparative data released by the National Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization (NOTTO) for 2022 has now officially sealed its place as the frontrunner.Telanganarecorded 194 donors, followed by Nadu which recorded 154 donors during the year. Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra were among the other top states.
Telangana also tops in the number of deceased donor transplants, meaning majority of the organs donated under the cadaver programme are utilized within the state. The number of donations under the states Jeevandan programme for organ donation have been on the rise over the last few years going up from 162 in 2021 to 194 in 2022. There have been 45 cadaver donations this year so far. The organs include kidney, liver, heart, lung, cornea and pancreas.
