Tamil Nadu to extend numeracy and literacy programme up to Class V

TheTamil Nadugovernment’snumeracy and Literacy programme”Ennum Ezhuthum” will be extended up to Class V, finance ministerPalanivel Thiaga Rajanannounced it in his budget speech for 2023-24 in the assembly.

The programme was launched last year aiming at achieving universal foundational literacy and numeracy for allstudentsstudying in classes I to III by 2025.
The minister said owing to the

positive response, the programme is extended up to Class V. He also allocated Rs 110 crore in the budget.

The finance minister also announced that the would construct classrooms, labs, toilets at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore during 2023-24. The state government allotted Rs 40,299 crore for this.
