The scenic East Coast Road will soon be in the limelight, with the planning to develop it into a hub for water Sports, sailing and other similar activities. The move is part of efforts to make the most of the states coastline dotted with as many as 15 beaches including at Rameswaram, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari.
Sources say water sports facilities can be set up near getaway spots and popular beaches. There are also plans for helicopter tourism atTiruvalluvarstatue in Kanyakumari and Rameswaram, adventure tourism at Ooty, Kodaikanal and to formulate new trails around Arupadaiveedu, Ramayana trail, etc.
The aim is to create value-based tourism and the right eco-system for the young to stay longer, spend more.
