Central University of Himachal Pradesh signs MoU with US institute

Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP), Dharamsala, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indiana University, Pennsylvania (IUP), USA. The partnership will focus on academic and research collaboration between the two universities.

Professor Bansal added the universities would make efforts to identify and develop courses at undergraduate and post-graduate level wherein credit sharing could be possible.

Union minister of defenceRajnath Singhinaugurated the newly developed Shaurya Sthal war memorial in Cheedhbagh area of Dehradun cantonment.

Singh was accompanied byUttarakhandchief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan while laying wreath at the war memorial, which is a tribute to the valour of over 2,330 armed forces personnel hailing from Uttarakhand who made the supreme sacrifice for the country. It was initially developed by Uttarakhand War Memorial Trust which under an MoU handed over its control to the Army last December.

Water availability to double in 25 years

State water supply minister Kunvarji Bavaliya said that the per capita water availability in the state will be doubled in the next 25 years. Bavaliya said the present per capita availability of water in Gujarat is 850 cubic metres, which will be increased to 1,700 cubic metres by 2047.

Bavaliya is participating in the 1st All India Annual States Ministers Conference on Water Vision@2047 which began on Thursday in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The water resources ministers of 30 states, Union ministers and officials are participating in the conference. Bavaliya said the state government has undertaken a strategic programme to eradicate water scarcity. He listed programmes implemented in areas of Gujarat that faced water scarcity. Gujarat has ensured a marked decrease in critical, semi-critical and dark zones in 20 years, Bavaliya said.

Target to facilitate education of 9 lakh adolescent girls: J’khand Govt

TheJharkhand government said it aims at facilitating the education of nine lakh adolescent girls in the state under theSavitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana(SPKSY). The welfare programme was launched by Chief MinisterHemant Sorenin October last year from Giridih along with the ‘Aapki Yojana Aapki Sarkar Aapke Dwar’ campaign, an initiative to take the benefits of various government schemes at the doorsteps of villagers.

“The Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana is an effort of the state government to facilitate the education of adolescent girls and a step towards women empowerment and gender justice…Nine lakh adolescent girls of the state shall be covered by this scheme,” a statement issued by the government said.

Under the ‘Aapki Yojana’ campaign, which went on for a month, three lakh adolescent girls were linked to the scheme.

The objective of the scheme is not only providing financial assistance to adolescent girls for education, but also ensuring that the girls don’t drop out from school, and preventing child marriage, it said.

Recently the state government expanded the scope of the overseas scholarship by signing an MoU with the British High Commission.

Road safety remains a major concern in Patna

The state capital faces its own set of problems when it comes to road safety. From jaywalking, talking over phone while driving, ignorance of lane-discipline to haphazard parking, causing road safety concerns. It has often been noticed that most pedestrian accidents occur because of jaywalking or crossing the busy road unlawfully.

However, till now no provisions have been made for pedestrians inBiharunder the clauses of The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, which empowers state to regulate the activities of both motorists as well as pedestrians.

Negligence of lane discipline is another frequently committed traffic offence on the roads of Patna. Though penalty can be imposed under section 190 of MV Act, clause 119 where the traffic police can fine up to Rs100, but such action is hardly taken.

Under Amrut 2.0, the BMC will spend Rs 1,000 crore to overcome sewage problems

The Municipal Corporation will spend one thousand crore rupees in the coming years under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme to give freedom to the residents from sewage flowing in the open. Under this, sewage pipeline will be laid in the entire city.

There is a plan to connect 100 percent houses with these. Till now 350 km sewage pipeline has been laid in the city with Rs 400 crore received under Amrit 1.0 Yojana. Presently 80 thousand houses have been connected with these. A target has been set to provide four lakh connections by December 2023.

It may be mentioned that ten years ago the PHE department had laid sewage pipelines in some areas of the old city. More than 50 thousand houses were connected with this connection. But these pipelines have also become dilapidated over the years.

State to set up migrant help centre in Guj

The state government will set up a migrant labour assistance centre at Surat in Gujarat.

The assistance centre will help migrant labourers from the state to seek redressal of various grievances and issues and ensure their safety and welfare at their workplaces, officials said. The government approved the proposed centre in Surat in October. The centre will be similar to existing facilities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Rajasthan govt likely to enact law to set up education regulator, rein in coaching centres

TheRajasthan governmentis set to enact a law establishing a regulatory authority to keep tabs on private educational institutes includingcoaching centres, ensuring that they open counselling cells, end “glorification” of toppers and deal with the kind of stress that possibly led to three students committing suicide recently. The draft law proposes aptitude tests for students before they join a coaching centre for competitive exams, and a helpline if they find that they cannot face the stress.

“The Rajasthan Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Bill – 2022”, which has been in the making since 2020, is likely to be introduced in the next session of the state assembly.

It covers schools, colleges as well as centres, like in coaching hub Kota, that prepare students for competitive exams. Recently, three students studying at a Kota centre committed suicide, allegedly because they could not cope up with the pressure of studies there.

Railways earns Rs 120478 Crores from Freight loading this FY till December 2022

On mission mode, Indian Railways’ Freight loading for first nine months of this financial year 2022-23 crossed last years loading and earnings for the same period.

On cumulative basis from April – December 22, freight loading of 1109.38 MT achieved against last year loading of 1029.96 MT, an improvement of 8% over last year loading. Railways have earned Rs 120478 crore against Rs 104040 crore over last year which is an improvement of 16% as compared to the same period of last year.
