Chief minister Conrad K Sangma visited theDon Bosco Technical School, Shillong, and distributed completion certificates and appointment letters to the students who passed, even as he said the government intends to create five lakh jobs.
He also said the government has a target of creating five lakh job opportunities in different sectors and assured that the government would partner with Don Bosco Technical School in a larger way to achieve this target.
Cachar district ofAssamhas bagged the award for excellence in various fields of Health Services among 33 communities of the state in theSwasthya Seva Utsav, which was held recently as per the guidelines ofGunotsavof the Education department.
Cachar has the highest number of grade ‘A’ hospitals. Twenty-two government hospitals in the district have been adjudged grade A .

In a first of its kind initiative, the Water Corporation ofOdisha(WATCO) has planned to build an exclusive hostel for transgender persons. Coming up at Rokat, on the outskirts of the city, this will be the first such facility for the community in the state.
In order to execute the project, WATCO has recently floated a tender to hire an architectural firm, which will conduct the site inspection as well as give a detailed architectural and feasibility plan to the corporation for the project.

Anna Universityhas jumped more than 120 places compared to the previous year to break into the top 500 universities in the QS World University Ranking 2024 released on Tuesday. The technical university secured the 427th rank and found a place on the list of top 10 institutions in the country, mainly because of its improvement in the criteria of academic reputation and citation per faculty.
In the previous cycle, Anna University was ranked in the band of 551-560. Central institutions including seven IITs, IISc andUniversity of Delhifeatured above Anna University on the list. In the citation per faculty (CpF) criteria, the University got a score of 99.8, up from 85.2 it had secured last year.
On CpF, the university was ranked 12th in the world and second in the country afterIndian Institute of Science, Bengaluru which got a perfect 100. This criterion has a 20% weightage in the ranking.
Keralahas received the Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus status from the Centre for making all the villages meet the parameters prescribed by the Swachh Bharat Mission.
This was achieved by ensuring that all villages have been equipped with modern facilities for sanitation and waste disposal as per the parameters set by the department of drinking water and sanitation, Union ministry of Jal Shakti. Kerala is targeting to achieve 100% ODF model status by December. The criteria for declaring a village as ODF Plus include sustained ODF status along with implementing either solid or liquid Waste Management systems. The focused effort by all villages and grama panchayats in meeting the yardsticks helped the state attain the status, which reflects on the policy initiatives and their meticulous implementation by the government.
The grama panchayats have implemented projects for source-level management of biodegradable waste, collection of biodegradable waste byHaritha Karma Sena, construction of community and household toilets, installation of public disposal facilities for biodegradable waste, liquid waste disposal facilities and various informative campaigns.

The minister, who visited various places on the coast in Udupi district on Sunday, said that fishermen in Goa, Karnataka andKeralahave been facing difficulties due to the issue of sea erosion. “When a solution is found in one stretch, the issue crops up in another stretch. A permanent solution needs to be chalked out to prevent damages caused by sea erosion. Hence, we have been sending teams to all affected areas to conduct studies. We need support from the central government to find a permanent solution for sea erosion. It will not be possible for the State Government alone to find a permanent solution for the menace, the minister said.

Andhra Pradeshhas launched a comprehensive sickle cell anaemia screening programme in the tribal pockets of the state.
This will cover about 20 lakh tribal Population aged under 40 years in Alluri Seetharama Raju, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Srikakulam, Eluru, etc.districts in the state. This is the first such comprehensive testing programme launched in the state for SCD. Of the 53,000 people screened for the condition in 2022-23, 178 patients were tested positive for it. At this rate, it is estimated that about 10,000 people are likely to have SCD traits.
According to experts, the unrestrained consanguineous marriage culture is further driving the SCD in the tribal parts of the state. Researchers have long been advocating the public, in these tribal parts, to screen themselves for SCD gene before marriages and not to go for consanguineous marriages if they are the carrier of the gene.
Less than 12% of Goa’s schools are unaided, but at least for the primary section, enrolment in these private institutions has surpassed the numbers in government and even government-aided schools. The directorate of Education‘s education statistics report has revealed that 21,568 children study in unaided schools, while 19,638 in government schools.
Of all the Class I students enrolled in the academic year 2022-23, 5,334 secured admission in 129 unaided schools, while 4,760 joined 712 government schools. For government-aided schools, 12,833 students joined 287 of these.
