Country’s biggest ‘detention centre, Matia transit camp

The countrys biggest “detention centre”, now renamed “transit camp” for a human touch at Matia in lowerAssamsGoalparadistrict, has become operational with the first batch of inmates being shifted to the newly built facility from another transit camp at the Goalpara district jail on Friday. The transit camp was built at a cost of around Rs 64 crore.

Official sources in the prison department said that altogether there are around 219 “declared foreigners” lodged in all the transit camps in Assam, including the standalone transit camp in Matia.

‘Joranda Gadi under Govt’s 5T plan’

As per direction of CM Naveen Patnaik, 5T Secretary VK Pandian visited the Joranda Mahima Gadi in Dhenkanal district on Monday and informed about the State Governments plan to develop, beautify and transform the heritage spot.

He lauded the Mahima religion for its emphasis on , Fraternity and world peace. CM Patnaik is deeply influenced by the core principles of the Mahima religion, he said. He informed that the CM has kept a hand fan made up of palm leaf used by the Mahima Sadhus at his residence. The fan inspires him to live a simple and selfless life with a broad vision.

The State Government would provide all support to promotion and propagation of the Mahima religion, assured Pandian, adding that all Mahima Peethas across the State would also be developed. Naming the Balangir Medical College after Mahima Saint Bhima Bhoi is a sign of the Government’s commitment towards the development of the religion, said Pandian.

Pandian said that a bridge has been built over the Brahmani river from Kaluria to Sardeipur at a cost of Rs 235.56 crore by which people of 62 villages have been benefitted. Besides, the tourists and devotees to the Mahima Gadi are able to conveniently commute. The CM has named the bridge as Mahima Setu.

Voltas starts work on new TN factory, to invest Rs 500 crore

Voltashas laid the groundwork and performed BhoomiPujafor its new air conditioner factory at Madharapakkam in Thiruvallur district ofTamil Nadu. The Bhoomi Puja was performed by the Leadership team of the company earlier this week with Voltas chairman Noel Tata and MD & CEO of VoltasPradeepBakshi among others.

The new manufacturing facility is spread over 150 acres. The company has planned to invest over 500 crore in this factory for room air conditioners (RACs) manufacturing, over the next couple of years. This facility will ensure that all the products manufactured here are competitive on a global scale, said the company in a statement. This facility will initially manufacture RAC and is an extension to the existing RAC facility in Pantnagar.

New coastal regulations may fuel urban boom, greens wary

Taking into consideration the potential for urban Growth based on the new Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), the civic body and the District Administration are planning to make appropriate corrections in the old Coastal Regulation Zone maps that will eventually free up lands close to water bodies in and around Kochi.

The corporation authorities, with the support of local residents, councillors, and the district administration have started measures to get exemptions for the areas which were included under the CRZ limits.
As per the new draft of the CZMP, there are provisions for certain relaxations, and if the local body or residents succeed in proving that some areas are eligible for relaxations they will be exempted from the CRZ limits.

As of now, CRZ regulations are being decided in each area based on the CZM. “Now, theKeralaCoastal Zone Management Authority has published the draft of the CZMP. Once the draft is finalized, it will be the base for deciding CRZ limits. In the new draft plan, there are some changes,” said P Z Thomas, an expert member of the panel which prepared the CZMP.

Kalyana Ktaka monument replicas are displayed at new Parliament bldg

The replicas of rare monuments related toSamratAshok, which were found in Kalaburagi, Raichur and Koppal districts in the KalyanaKarnatakaregion, are displayed at the newly constructed Parliament building in New Delhi. Prime MinisterNarendra Modihad on Sunday inaugurated the new monument.

The huge display dedicated to the king includes the only depiction of Samrat Ashok along with his wife and two children found at Sannati in Kalaburagi district. Only edicts, emblems and pillars of Ashok have been found elsewhere in the country.

The second replica is a stone script by Samrat Ashok written in Brahmi that was found at Maski town in Raichur district. The third one is an ancient map of India with a mention of Koppal and Maski.
It is said that the display aims to introduce the upcoming generation to the great legacy of Ashok.

It turns out that at least a dozen Telangana government initiatives in various sectors such as millet promotion, energy and forest improvement are mentioned in the Aayog’s reports released in May.

Telangana’s work was mentioned in the document titled ‘Best practices in social sector compendium-2023″ in two categories: Environment and energy conservation. ‘Palle Prakruti Vanalu’ andTelangana State Energy Conservation Building Code(ECBC) for commercial buildings were part of 75 best practices chosen from across India as successful models.
These mentions are in addition to Awards announced on regular basis by the top policymaking body. Telangana is said to have received approximately 25% of awards in various categories over the years.
The Aayog’s recent document on millet promotion lauded Telangana’s strategy to revive its consumption and improve the nutritional content of cooked meals served to children under ICDS, thereby contributing to a reduction in stunting, anaemia and underweight Population in the target group.

The ‘Giri Poshana’ plan, which is an innovative approach to improve Nutrition among tribal populations in theIntegrated Tribal Development Agency(ITDA) areas of Utnoor, Bhadrachalam and Eturnagaram in the state, was also mentioned in the Aayog report.

Goan-built vessel to help Maldives with maritime research, environment protection

A 30-meter catamaran built byVijai Marine Shipyardat Rassaim was handed over on Monday to the Maldives government to undertake marine research. Funded by the (WB), the vessel – Thimaaveshi will help the Maldivian ministry of Environment,Climate Changeand Technology to track the effects of Climate Change, impact on coral reefs and Fisheries.

IIT Kharagpur helped Vijai Marine with the design and vessel construction.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant flagged off the vessel which will set sail for Maldives on Tuesday. This 30 meter catamaran ship has been built in Goa and this ship is a proud moment as it symbolizes Make in India and Make in Goa too. This ship has been built for the Maldives government, said Sawant.

QR code display for projects must from Aug 1: MahaRERA

TheMaharashtraReal Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) on Monday directed to display QR codes of all registered housing projects, along with their registration numbers, in all advertisements or Social Media display from August 1.

The authority started issuing QR codes for registered projects in March. A homebuyer can scan the QR code and get vital information about a project, such as the commencement and completion date, details of any complaints registered, besides necessary approvals. Also, modifications in approved plans and project renewal, too, are included in the QR code. Nearly 40,000 projects are registered with the MahaRERA.

This streamlined accessibility aims to empower customers in making informed decisions regarding their property investments.
MahaRERA officials said that under the RERA Act developers are required to update project information on their websites every 3 to 6 months.

Fatehabad N-plant likely to begin operations in 2028

The first unit of North Indias first nuclear power plant, situated in Gorakhpur village in Fatehabad district of Haryana, is likely to commence operations in June 2028.

Providing an update on the projects progress, project director, GHAVP, Niranjan Kumar Mittal, said 74 per cent of the ground improvement work had been completed. Additionally, essential equipment such as end shields and steam generators for the first unit, along with critical reactor components, had been received at the site.
