24,000 Myanmar refugees took shelter in state till February 2: Mizoram CM in House

Mizoramhas provided shelter to 24,289 refugees fromMyanmartill February 2, after they fled the neighbouring country following the military coup in February last year and took shelter in Mizoram, chief ministerZoramthangainformed the state legislative assembly.

The Centre could not openly give financial and other assistance to the refugees as India is not party to the 1951 Refugee Convention or its 1967 Protocol, and does not have a national refugee protection framework. He said the has been providing assistance to the refugees through the respective district administrations and appealed to the legislators to intimate him in case any problem arises within their constituencies.

Pulse polio immunization drive to cover 48.4 lakh children in Assam

The pulse polio immunization drive kicked off inAssam with a goal to cover about 48.4 lakh children below five years of age this year, which is around 10% of Assams total Population.
As a part of this drive to cover all 34 districts of Assam, the targeted children will be immunized with the support of 10,854 Health workers. A total of 24,060 booths were planned to execute the task.

Early in the day, Mahanta inaugurated the drive in Assam by administering two polio drops to a child at Jakhalabandha primary health centre in central Assam. In Assam, total households to be visited by health care workers during house-to-house activity during this years pulse polio campaign is estimated to be 62 lakh.

State scheme to fight malnutrition

To address the issue of Malnutrition among adolescent girls, pregnant and ailing Women, the Odisha government has implemented the Strategy for Odishas Pathway to Accelerated Nutrition (SOPAN) in 125 blocks of 22 districts across the state.

Under the scheme, girls and women will be provided weekly nutrition supplements. Besides, programmes likeKishori Mela, additional spot feeding for pregnant and mothers of newborns will be organised.

Director of ICDS project Arvind Agrawal instructed district collectors to carry out various activities, such as distribution of eggs thrice a week to 15 to 19-year-old girls, under the scheme.

The scheme will be implemented in Angul, Bolangir, Bargarh, Boudh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Jajapur, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Koraput,Malkangiri,Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Subarnpur and Sundargarh districts.

The life story of DMK president and Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has been launched by Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader.

The autobiography is titled “Ungalil Oruvan” (One Among You).

The autobiography was released by Tejashwi Yadav, the Opposition Leader in the Bihar Assembly, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah.

MK Stalin

MK Stalin is the eighth and current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

KSEBs spot registration for rooftop solar units

KSEBis organizing a spot registration drive for consumers interested to set up rooftop solar power generation units from February 28.

Domestic consumers can register for the setting up of the subsidized solar units. Registration drive would be from February 28 to March 5. More details can be had from KSEB sub-division offices, KSEB informed.

Meanwhile, the board has extended to March 31 the opportunity for consumers to disclose their additional connected load and get it regularized.

The board has announced relaxation in the application fees and additional security deposit for consumers who voluntarily disclose the excess connected load in their building. Board appealed to consumers to use the opportunity for regularizing excess connected load at the earliest.

The additional plug points and new electrical equipment added by consumers over time often lead to excess connected load and issues.

Telangana: Kakatiya-era idol found in Mahabubnagar dunes

A black granite sculpture ofVishnu-Chennakesavawas unearthed from sand dunes in Mahabubnagar district.

The idol has been carved out of black granite. It is interesting to note that the idol was kept hidden undern rosewood logs for safety and security when there was political unrest soon after the lastKakatiyaking Prataparudra was taken captive of war in 1323 AD.

After sensitising villagers about the historical significance of the idol, Siva Nagi Reddy appealed to the the local community to preserve it.

Nikarshan Sadan Dredging Museum In Visakhapatnam

The union minister for , Shipping & Waterways, and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated Nikarshan Sadan Dredging Museum.

Raise age of child from 16 to 18 under Goa Childrens Act

Proposing amendments to theGoa Childrens Act, 2003, thegovernments victim assistance unit(VAU) has recommended the deletion of section 2(d) which states that a child is any person who has not completed 16 years of age and the inclusion of a provision which states that a child should be defined as anyone who is under the age of 18 years.

The propositions, which have been aimed at removing anomalies between state and central legislations, also include increasing the punishment period of perpetrators.
The Goa Childrens Act has not been amended for the last 17 years. The last amendments were carried out in 2004 and 2005 and were minor in nature.

The amendments have been proposed to strengthen the Goa Childrens Act, which was one of the first acts to define all types of child abuse and offer mechanisms to provide support to victims.
