Imphal store promotes indigenous products

Speaking on the occasion, Phulen appreciated the initiative taken by the Keithel Store, a unit ofPANN Corporation(Pune) to market the indigenous products ofManipurto all parts of the globe through a single platform.

Assam: GIS mapping to find closer exam center

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has launched GIS mapping of schools and examination centres to minimise travel distance for students.

Students would be allocated centres closer to their schools based on the mapping. Students in hilly terrains and the riverine belt of Assam have been facing difficulties commuting long distances to reach centres for their board examination.

All 1,784 institutions affiliated to it, including higher secondary schools, degree colleges and erstwhile junior colleges (now known as senior secondary schools), have been asked to complete geo-tagging at the earliest.

Odisha 3rd in Omicron XBB virus

International research body GISIAD, which has been monitoring the changes in the Covid-19 virus, has confirmed 380 cases of the XBB sub-variant of the Omicron variant in nine States in India.

While Tamil Nadu has reported 175 XBB cases, West Bengal has 103 cases followed by Odisha with 35. The other States having the XBB virus are Maharashtra with 21, Delhi 18, Puducherry 16, Karnataka 9, Gujarat 2 and Rajasthan 1.

According to reports, the XBB sub-variant is fast emerging as the dominant one in the country.

Tamil Nadu third in implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban

Tamil Naduhas been adjudged the third best performing state in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) scheme that is aimed at providing housing for all in urban pockets. Uttar Pradesh andMadhya Pradeshbagged the top two slots.

Micro, small and medium enterprises ministerT M Anbarasanreceived the awards for the year 2021 from Prime MinisterNarendra Modiat a function that was held in Rajkot.

Madurai corporation won the third place among the corporations, while Periya Negamam town panchayat won fifth place among the town panchayats in implementing the scheme. Apart from this, the state won special recognition for faster mover under affordable rental housing complexes (ARHCs) model-2 and innovative construction technologies.

Kochi: Govt sanctions Rs 185 crore for road

Expediting the coastal highway project works in the district, the government has sanctioned Rs 184.6 crore for Chellanam South-Fort Kochi coastal road which is part of the highway. The amount is allocated for land acquisition and distribution of compensation amount as part of road construction.

The coastal highway is being constructed with a width of 14m as per the national highway standard. The construction of the road is being carried out by theKerala Road Fund Board(KRFB) with the financial assistance ofKIIFB. In the district, a preliminary outline of the stretch fromChellanam Southto Fort Kochi and the stretch fromKalamukku to Munambamhas already been prepared. Discussions on Fort Kochi-Vypeen stretch alignment of the highway are in progress.

Karnataka orders survey of Arabic schools

TheKarnatakagovernment has ordered a survey of Arabic schools as they were allegedly not following thesyllabusprescribed by the state education department.

The step was taken after the parents of students reportedly complained to the education department, saying that their children studying in Arabic schools were not on par with other students. “So we decided to conduct a survey of Arabic schools,”Nageshsaid.

According to education department officials, there are 200 Arabic schools in Karnataka, of which 106 are aided by the government and 80 are unaided. They are all registered under the Karnataka Education Act and bound to follow rules and regulations of the Karnataka government, Nagesh said.

Hyderabad gets headstart in rollout of 5G

Hyderabad is among the 13 cities to witness5G(fifth generation) service rollout soon. Experts say telecom tower coverage and optic fiber connectivity may have made the city an ideal choice for the first phase launch. According to officials, telecom tower coverage in the city is one of the highest in the country, better than the national average.

The fiberising of the base transceiver stations (BTSs) is also happening at greater speed in the country. In order to increase datacarrying capacity, India intends to connect up to eight lakh additional mobile towers via optical fiber over the next two years, more than doubling its current capacity.

Telecom service providers will fiberise their BT stations installed on mobile towers with 7,93,551 units connected by optical fiber in India. Nearly, 86,000 towers, a vast majority of them in Hyderabad, in Telangana have already been fiberised. The national average for fiberised BTS is 34%. Only a few states, includingTamil Naduand Telangana, have more than 36% of such towers.

Andhra Pradesh government postpones ban on flex banners to January 26

TheAndhra Pradesh governmenthas postponed the ban on plastic (vinyl)flex bannersto January 26.
As per the original schedule, the state government wanted to enforce the ban.

However, the government decided to temporarily put off the ban to allow the industry to make suitable alternatives.

The CM wanted to make AP, a plastic free state by 2027 and ban on vinyl banners is also a step towards bringing down the plastic waste.

Goa seeks central aid for coastal policing

Chief ministerPramod Sawanthas requested the ministry of home affairs (MHA) to provide central assistance for acquiring modern equipment and high-speed boats to patrol the coast.

In December last year, Goa police introduced a pink police force to prevent crime against women. Sawant also informed the gathering that of the 700 Nigerian nationals that were found to be illegally staying in the state, 650 were deported and efforts were being made to send balance to their home country.

Maharashtra drops to number 4 in organ donation list

The number of organ donations inMaharashtra, where the country’s first heart and first cadaver kidney transplants took place, is falling.

Till 2019, Maharashtra led other states with 160 deceased donations that made liver, kidney, heart, lungs, among other organs available for 449 patients with end-stage disease. The topper has dropped to number four this year.

While the pandemic led to a drop in donations in Maharashtra-75 in 2020 and 85 in 2021-some other states registered a rise during the trying time. Telangana climbed from 75 in 2020 to 170 this year. Gujarat, which had 70 donations in 2021, has 50% more donations than Maharashtra this year with 126 donors. Karnataka, at number 3, has 114 donations this year.
