Tripura to become malaria-free by 2027, says Manik

CM ManikSaha announced thatTripurawould become malaria-free by 2027 while addressing theAsia Pacific Leaders Conclaveon Malaria Eradication 2023 in New Delhi.

Besides strengthening the rural Health and healthcare facilities, the Tripura government has undertaken a four-point action to control vector-borne diseases like malaria. It included the use of larvivorous fishes for mosquito control, vector-control sprays, insecticide-treated mosquito nets and massive awareness about malaria, Saha said.
He claimed that the Tripura government has adopted the latest drug policy for the treatment of malaria patients following international standards, which reduced the malaria infection rate to only three persons in every thousand Population.

Among eight districts, only two have been identified as prone to malaria and accordingly, specific interventions have been made and strategies employed to eradicate malaria and other vector-borne diseases, the CM said.

Saha highlighted that Tripura had witnessed a devastating malaria outbreak in 2014 when at least 96 people died and as many as 51,240 people were detected positive by screening only 6.8% of blood samples, which has improved within two years.


Australia University names theatre after Assam woman Annanda GohainIn a proud moment for state, a theatre at Australias University of New South Wales has been named after Annanda Gohain from Assam. The Lecture Theater G06 inside the CLB at UNSW in Sydney was named as Annanda Gohain Theatre.

Gohain was the first woman to graduate from UNSWs School of Chemical Engineering. She then completed her postgraduate degree from the same university on July 13, 1959.

ICC Odisha gets new office-bearers

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Odisha State Council organised its Annual General Meeting (AGM), in which its new team was inducted.

JB Pany, Director, Javastra Technology Pvt Ltd; Rajib Sekhar Sahoo, Chartered Accountant and Principal partner, SRB & Associates; and M K Gupta, Managing Director, Gupta Power Ltd (GPIL); were appointed as new chairman, senior vice-chairman and vice-chairman of the State Council for the year 2023-24.

The new office-bearers said they would work closely with the State Government to make Odisha a preferred destination for investors.

Odisha is the manufacturing hub of East India, with the state GSDP Growth surpassing the national GDP growth rate of India. It is the heartland of Indias mineral deposits and one of the most happening places for start-ups. Odisha is also recognised as a leader in the implementation of business reforms by DIPP and the World Bank.

The ICC living up to its new theme of Governance for Growth actively promotes sustainable growth initiatives throughout the country and abroad connecting the hinterlands of India to the highways of global growth.

The ICC initiatives in Odisha pan a cross section of business and economic activities in the State.

At 13,629, Tamil Nadu has most lakes in India

In the first-ever national census of lakes conducted by the Union jal shakti ministry, Naduhas emerged at the top with 13,629 lakes.

The Irrigation census sponsored by the Centre was launched to have a comprehensive national Database of all waterbodies, covering all aspects, including type, condition, status of encroachments, use, storage, capacity and status of storage, both in rural and urban areas. The findings that were released on Sunday shows that Tamil Nadu stands fourth (43,837) in the number of tanks, after Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh. The ministry had enumerated over 24 lakh water bodies in the country during the census.

The assessment of water bodies and their condition comes in the wake of a Parliamentary standing committee recommending a separate census and a central database. For the first time, the Centre has collected information on encroachment of water bodies. While 1.6% of the enumerated water bodies across the country are encroached, 8,366 water bodies in Tamil Nadu, which is 8% of its total count, have been encroached upon. Significantly, the encroachment of 4,933 water bodies alone could be assessed.

Cusat to get skill devpt hub

A Skill development hub will be set up atCochin University of Science and Technology(Cusat) with the support of educational institutions and commercial establishments, said industries ministerP Rajeeve.

Telangana to raise Rs 11,500 crore from market in Q1 with 7.6% interest

Telanganahas proposed to raise Rs 11,500cr from the market in the first quarter of the new fiscal in the form ofReserve Bank Of India(RBI) . In the first two rounds of raising Rs 1000cr bonds each, Telangana opted for a long repayment schedule of 21 years at an interest of 7.61%.
In April, Telangana will raise Rs 4000 crore, followed by Rs 3500 crore in May and Rs 5000 in June, with total borrowings pegged at Rs 11,500 crore.

In the last financial year, both state and Central governments locked horns over the Centre’s new rule that outstanding guarantees given by the State Government should be part of Fiscal Responsibility Budget Management (FRBM) conditions retrospectively.

A.P. government working on committee for caste census of Backward Classes, says Minister

Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ch. Venu Gopala Krishna said the was working on a committee on the caste census of Backward Classes in Andhra Pradesh.Recently, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced the caste census in the State.

Mr. Bharat claimed that the bhavan would be built with 8.5 crore and be ready in 18 months. He thanked Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) for allotting land for the bhavan.Rajanagaram MLA Jakkampudi Rajam, Rajamahendravaram Urban Development Authority chairperson Medapati Sharmila Reddy, RMC commissioner K. Dinesh Kumar and other officers were present.

Four products from Goa set to get GI tag in less than 3 months

Four products that are unique to Goa bebinca,malcorada mango, seven ridge okra and Agasaim brinjal have been published in the journal of the Geographical Indication (GI) Registry, which is the final stage in the process of obtaining a GI status for these items.

The products will officially have GI status in less than 3 months, following publication.

A GI label indicates a products specific geographical origin and the qualities that stem from that provenance.
The department of Science and Technology is the nodal agency to undertake GI registrations for products unique to Goa. These are agricultural produce, handicrafts, food items and handloom articles. The department has designated the Goa State Council for Science and Technology as the facilitator for the work.

State to file curative plea in SC for Maratha quota

With theSupreme Courtquashing its to restore theMarathaquota in jobs and Education, the Eknath Shinde-led government inMaharashtraheld an urgent meeting on the issue on Friday and said it would file a Curative Petition in the apex court. The government also announced it would set up another commission to conduct a detailed survey to prove the social and educational backwardness of the community.

The SC recently refused to re-examine its decision by which it had declared the Maharashtra law to grant reservation to Marathas as unconstitutional and said there was no error in its 2021 verdict.

Haryana to establish Automated Testing Stations to reduce pollution

Haryana Government is establishing six Automated Testing Stations (ATS) in the state which will help to reduce Air Pollution and improve the overall sustainability of transportation, Chief Secretary, Sanjeev Kaushal said in a meeting to review the enforcement of the ban on 10/15 years old vehicles and the mandatory use of Smog Guns.

Kaushal directed the Deputy Commissioners of Faridabad and Gurugram to assess the gap of anti-smog guns and submit its report with on one month. Besides this, the officers concerned of Gurugram and Faridabad must ensure that all construction and demolition projects must deploy and ensure frequent and effective use of adequate number of anti-smog guns, in proportion of the total area of construction for the project as at least 1 for a total construction area between 5000-10000 sqm, at least 2 for a total construction area between 10001 – 15000 sqm, at least 3 for a total construction area between 15001 – 20000 sqm and at least 4 for a total construction area above 20,000 sqm.
