Gender ratio at birth falls below 400 in 20 Kurukshetra villages

The gender ratio at birth in 20 villages of Kurukshetra in Haryana was recorded below 400 in 2022 while the districts ratio dropped by 28 points from 921 in 2021 to 893 last year.

Alarmed at the decline given Haryana’s gender ratio of 917 girls born per 1,000 boys, the district authorities have zeroed in on 80 of the 419 villages that have seen a decline in the ratio. A decision has been taken to hold monthly review meetings with auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), accredited social Health activists (ASHAs) and other health officials concerned.

Of the 20 villages on the district administrations radar, Barachpur recorded an alarming gender ratio of 77 last year. Inhabited mostly by Scheduled Cates and Backward Classes, the village has a Population of around 1,000. As per the Health Departments data, 14 children were born in the village in 2022, of whom 13 were boys. The situation was different in 2021 when a gender ratio of 909 was recorded with the birth of 11 boys and 10 girls.

SGPC passes Rs 1,138-cr budget, allocates Rs 855 cr for gurdwaras

The SGPC unanimously passed a budget of Rs 1,138 crore for the fiscal 2023-24 here today. It recorded a hike of Rs 150 crore (around 15 per cent) in comparison to the last years budget of Rs 988 crore.

Out of Rs 1,138 crore, Rs 855 crore would go to various gurdwaras as grant. During the next fiscal, the SGPC will pay over Rs 500 crore as salary bills for the entire staff of gurdwaras, Education and healthcare institutions, Rs 87.33 crore for serving langar and Rs 60.36 crore for karah parshad to be distributed among devotees. HP water cess on hydropower generation to cost Punjab Rs 484 cr

Punjab and Himachal Pradesh are likely to lock horns over a recent decision of the hill state to impose a water cess on the hydropower generation on its turf. The Punjab State Power Corporation (Pspcl) is legally examining the decision.

Punjab has one hydropower project in addition to its stake in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). The water cess will now be collected by the Himachal Government keeping in view the size of the project and other parameters.

The Bill in the Vidhan Sabha is aimed to raise Rs 4,000 crore per annum through the cess payable on the water being utilised by the power generation companies, which have projects in the state. Recently, the Congress formed the government in the hill state.

Uttarakhand government to set up state urban development institute in Nainital

The is all set to form the StateUrban DevelopmentInstitute (SUDI) for “the result-oriented study of various issues and challenges related to urban development.”SUDIwill be set up at theUttarakhandAcademy of Administration inNainital.

The governing body of SUDI will be headed by the chief secretary and officials from the urban development department will be part of it. Anand Bardhan, additional chief secretary in the Uttarakhand government, said that SUDI will focus on identifying the challenges of urban development and its management to conduct result-oriented studies. “It will also help and guide the urban bodies in strengthening their existing work capacity and research documentation,” he added.

The institute will also provide training to officers, technical experts and institutions associated with urban development.

‘All parts of UP drawing investments uniformly’

PWD ministerJitin Prasada said that under Chief MinisterYogi Adityanath’s guidance, all parts of the state, and not just Lucknow and Noida, are attracting investments.

He also suggested that everyone should support local artisans at the state and national levels which would eventually help them save the transportation cost. “Our aim aim is to seeUttar Pradeshas one of the most developed states in the next five years,” he said.

8L migrant workers rescued in 3 years

The state migrant control room, which was initially conceptualised and set up during the nationwide migrant labourer crisis owing to Covid-19-induced lockdown, has so far managed to successfully rescue around 8 lakh workers from across the globe in the last three years.

Even though the Covid-related migrant crisis largely ended after the first two waves, the Jharkhand government’s decision to keep the control room functional as part of its safe and responsible Migration initiative taking into account the trafficking menace in Jharkhand, has now emerged as the one-stop centre for early bail out of migrant workers in distress irrespective of the geographical locations.

The entire operations and management of the control room is being managed by Partnering Hope Into Action (PHIA) Foundation, which had been working on migration and human trafficking issues in Jharkhand.

Cgarhs steel industry performed well: Baghel

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said the government is always ready to empower the steel sector, which he underlined performed even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He was addressing the All India Steel Conclave, attended by steel industrialists from across the country.

He said the steel is the backbone of the state’s economy. The last few years the industry has been facing many challenges.

The states Industrial Policy backed the industries and they continued with their production even during the pandemic. The power tariff exemption and ensuring coal supply was done to support the sector, he said.

Baghel said the condition of roads has deteriorated because of coal mines, adversely affecting transportation and increasing the cost.

MP first state to organise arm-wrestling for disabled

The Madhya Pradesh Government is going to give a big gift to the differently-abled persons of the state. According to sources in the District Administration an arm-wrestling tournament will be organized for the differently-abled in the state. These tournaments will be at district and divisional as well as state levels. The sources further said that Madhya Pradesh will be the first state in the country to organises such a tournament for the physically disabled persons.

It was further opined that these tournaments will provide an opportunity for the physically disabled persons to make their identity at the national as well as international levels.

Gujarat third worst with 1 lakh kids out of school at primary level

Data tabled by the Union Government in the Lok Sabha on Monday shows thatGujarathas the third highest number of ‘out of school children’ (OoSC) at the elementary level. The only two states that have higherOoSCnumbers areUttar PradeshandBihar.

While UP has the highest number of OoSC at 3,96,665, Bihar is second with 1,34,252. Gujarat ranks third with 1,06,885 children not admitted in any primary class.Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme of the Union government, all states and union territories (UTs) need to conduct household surveys for identification of OoSC. The department of school Education and Literacy has developed an online module for compiling data on OoSCs identified by each state and UT on the PRABANDH portal.
