Increasing activities by China in depth areas of eastern sector: Eastern Army Commander

China has increased the intensity of carrying out military drills and deployment in its depth areas opposite the Arunachal Pradesh sector and India has correspondingly readied contingency plans to deal with any security challenges in the region.

The IBGs will comprise a mix of infantry, artillery, air defence, tanks and logistics units and the new set up is expected to revamp the Army’s war fighting capabilities, particularly along the borders with China and Pakistan.

Assam bypolls: Nearly 8 lakh voters eligible to decide fate of 31 candidates in 5 assembly seats

A total of 7,96,456 voters are eligible to decide the fate of 31 candidates in the by-elections to five assembly seats in Assam on October 30.

Of the total electorate, 4,03,374 are males, 3,93,078 females and four are transgender. There are a total of 3,165 service voters, while 8,864 electors are aged above 80 and 4,998 are People with Disability (PwD).

Odisha e-vehicle firm bags Green Energy Award

The Shema e-vehicle & Solar (SES) Pvt Ltd, an Odisha-based electric scooter manufacturing company, has bagged the India Green Energy Award.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari presented the award to the firm in outstanding green energy initiatives in electric vehicle & battery segment.

The award was conferred at the third edition of India Green Energy Award 2020 by the Indian Federation of Green Energy. The SES, owned by young entrepreneur Yogesh Lath from Sambalpur district, has been manufacturing ultramodern electric two-wheelers at Dhankauda since five years. The company has also set up a mass production assembly line at Manesar (Gurugram).

Tamil Nadu: Ordinance promulgated for creation of 4 corporations

With the elections to the urban local bodies likely soon, Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi has promulgated ordinances for the creation of four corporations, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Sivakasi and Karur, upgrading the erstwhile municipalities. Ordinances will be issued for Tambaram and Kumbakonam corporations soon. This follows an announcement made by the state government in the assembly in August.

Tambaram gets four municipalities, including Pallavaram, Pammal, Sembakkam and Anakaputhur, and five town panchayats, Chitlapakkam, Madambakkam, Perungulathur, Peerkankaranai and Tiruneermalai. Daraspuram town panchayat is merged with Kumbakonam corporation.

Kerala: Study had warned against mining in Kootickal hills

A study by the state biodiversity board conducted in 2013 had strongly recommended the state government to stop mining and quarrying activities in Koottickal panchayat.

The board had also suggested that the entire Vagamon hill ranges, including the areas under the Koottickal panchayat, be declared as a protected area, considering its ecological, biodiversity and natural heritage values.

The Kottamala hill ranges which is part of Vagamon, extends from Ramapuram to Thidanad. Even in such an extensive hill range the quarry mafia has bought almost all hill tops for quarrying.

October 23: Karnataka celebrates Kittur Rani Chennamma Jayanthi

On the occasion, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai garlanded the statue of Queen in Hubbali in Dharwad district.

A sum of 50 crore rupees will be sanctioned in the year 2021 for the Kittur Development Authority.

Kittur Chennamma

Kittur Chennamma was born on October 23, 1778. She belonged to the Lingayat community. She married Raja Mallasarja from the Desai family when she was 15. She was Indian Queen of Kittur which was a princely state in Karnataka. She led an armed rebellion in the year 1824, against the British East India Company (BEIC). She rebelled in confrontation of the doctrine of lapse in a bid to maintain Indian control over the region. In the fight, she defeated the British. However, she was dead in the imprisonment of second rebellion by BEIC. She was one of the first female rulers who rebel against British rule. She became a folk hero in Karnataka. She also became a symbol of independence movement in India.

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy keen on land survey deadline

Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to complete the comprehensive land survey within the deadline. He also told them to process land registrations and mutations at the village secretariats.

The officials informed the chief minister that so far, survey was completed in 51 villages which were undertaken as pilot project and assured that another 650 villages will be completed by December 2021, covering one village from each mandal.

Similarly, the survey will be completed in 2,400 villages by June 22, 2022 and another 2,400 villages by August 2022, covering a total of 5,500 villages. Officials said by June 2023, the entire survey will be completed.

Data analysts to help Panaji tackle climate change

As the threat of climate change grows real year on year, Goas capital city, Panaji, is emerging as one of the most vulnerable areas.

Recognising this, the Atal Incubation Centre at the Goa Institute of Management (AICGIM), Sakhali, set up under Niti Aayog, is set to gather data, assess it and offer solutions to build Panajis resilience to climate change.

The centre has put together a Climate Collective made up of members from across the country, which includes researchers, students, data analysts, professionals and entrepreneurs who will work in teams starting from Saturday, for seven days.

The organisers have dubbed the event Climathon Panaji 2021.

Rs 4,264 crore rail works okayed for Maharashtra under South Central Railway: Union minister Raosaheb Danve

Amid outcry over biased treatment to Nanded division by the South Central Railway (SCR), Union minister of state for railways Raosaheb Danve on Wednesday said rail infrastructure works worth Rs 4,264 crore have been sanctioned for Maharashtra under the jurisdiction of SCR.

Danve said doubling of railway line between Mudkhed-Parbhani for a length of 81-km has already been completed whereas electrification works between Akola-Lohagad for a distance of 34 km have also been accomplished.

In regard to the status of new rail line between Ahmednagar and Parli via Beed, Danve said the new rail line work between Beed and Parli for a distance of 30-km has been completed and another stretch of 30-km was expected to get over during the current financial year.

Free education for kids from families earning less than Rs 1.8 lakh per year: Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced free-of-cost education for children whose verified family income is less than Rs 1.8 lakh per annum under the state gvernments ambitious Parivar Pehchan Patra Scheme.

The CM made the announcement while interacting with students who have cracked civil services exam 2020 and JEE (Advanced) 2021 under the governments Super 100 Programme, during a state-level felicitation programme in Panchkula.

The CM said the education system of Lord Macaulay was focused on the Three Rs: Writing, Reading and Arithmetic, which did not ensure the holistic development of a citizen.
