China in mind, Centre ramps up Arunachal border road infra

The 1800-km Frontier Highway, Indias first highway proposed by the MHA at Chinas doorsteps along theMcMahon Line in Arunachal Pradesh, got a major push after the road transport and highways ministry approved six corridors connecting this highway with two other parallel highways in the state Trans-Arunachal Highwayand theArunachal East-West Corridor.

The MORTH stated that the Frontier Highway has been proposed by the ministry of Home affairs along the international border of India/China in the state

The length of this highway is about 1,859 km at present. DPR of this highway is being prepared by the ministry.

MORTH stated that presently there are two arterial routes NH-15 which runs longitudinally along the foothills bordering Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and NH-13/NH-215 known as the Trans Arunachal Highways which runs through Arunachal Pradesh from east to west.

Odisha deposits Rs 150 crore to keep OTM from winding up

Theliquidationprocess ofOrissa Textiles Limited(OTM) in Cuttack district is likely to be reversed as the has deposited Rs 150 crore for obtaining a permanent stay on winding up of the company.

In June 2001, the government had filed a petition inOrissahigh court for the liquidation of OTM, then considered eastern India’s largest composite Cotton mills, at Choudwar. The HC had subsequently appointed an official liquidator for the purpose. The liquidation process was started under the company judge of the HC in March 2002.

OTM, set up in 1946 by Biju Patnaik and Pratap Singh, had started commercial production in 1950.

Performance to be criterion for schools to add sections

The state Education department has decided that secondary and higher secondary schools will be allowed to have more than six sections per standard only if they register more than 50% results in board exams for three consecutive years.
Earlier, the rule stipulated 75% results for additional sections. However, there was no clarity on which three-year tenure will be considered.

Sources said that the government, in its 2012 notification, had stated that schools should record 75% or above results

Goa has fifth best rural roads in country, 3 times the national average
