China in mind, Centre ramps up Arunachal border road infra

The 1800-km Frontier Highway, Indias first highway proposed by the MHA at Chinas doorsteps along theMcMahon Line in Arunachal Pradesh, got a major push after the road transport and highways ministry approved six corridors connecting this highway with two other parallel highways in the state Trans-Arunachal Highwayand theArunachal East-West Corridor.

The MORTH stated that the Frontier Highway has been proposed by the ministry of home affairs along the international border of India/China in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The length of this highway is about 1,859 km at present. DPR of this highway is being prepared by the ministry.

MORTH stated that presently there are two arterial routes NH-15 which runs longitudinally along the foothills bordering Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and NH-13/NH-215 known as the Trans Arunachal Highways which runs through Arunachal Pradesh from east to west.

Odisha deposits Rs 150 crore to keep OTM from winding up

Theliquidationprocess ofOrissa Textiles Limited(OTM) in Cuttack district is likely to be reversed as the state government has deposited Rs 150 crore for obtaining a permanent stay on winding up of the company.

In June 2001, the government had filed a petition inOrissahigh court for the liquidation of OTM, then considered eastern India’s largest composite cotton mills, at Choudwar. The HC had subsequently appointed an official liquidator for the purpose. The liquidation process was started under the company judge of the HC in March 2002.

OTM, set up in 1946 by Biju Patnaik and Pratap Singh, had started commercial production in 1950. In 1981, it was taken over by the state government after the private management declared a lockout.

Chennai to host its first international book fair in January 2023

Bookworms in Chennai will have an opportunity to meet their favourite international authors and Nobel laureates as the state government plans to conduct its first Chennai International Book Fair in January 2023.
TheTamilNaduTextbookand Educational Services Corporation (TNTESC) will host the first edition during the annual Chennai book fair.

The international pavilion will give an opportunity for foreign authors to exhibit and promote their books, national culture, and meet the leading Tamil publishers. The state government is planning to rope in international authors and Nobel laureates as guests of honour.

Internal grievance redressal committees to be set up at all shooting locations of Malayalam films soon

The Kerala Film Chamber has announced that internal grievance redressal committees will be set up at all the shooting locations of Malayalam movies. This committee will be formed specifically to deal with the complaints related to sexual harassment of women in workplaces.

According to the reports, the Kerala Film Chamber has prepared the design of the notice and logo for the committee and the notice, announcing its formation, will be posted at different movie locations. The notice will consist of the name, status, and phone number of the five committee members. One among the five members of the redressal committee will be having no association with a films shooting process.

More foreign universities under scheme: Karnataka Christian Development Council

TheOverseas Scholarshipprogramme of theKarnataka Christian Development Council(KCDC) will be resumed soon, with the addition of more foreign universities, for the benefit of students and the community.

The Overseas Scholarship scheme for students pursuing higher studies in foreign countries, provided Rs 10 lakh per year, and up to Rs 20 lakh for two years. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the scheme was transferred to the directorate of minorities. The KCDC has requested the chief minister to transfer the scheme back to the KCDC, he said, adding that the scheme will be resumed through the KCDC soon.

Telangana 10th state to withdraw general consent to CBI

Telangana has become the tenth state to withdraw general consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Its twomonth-old order was cited in court in the wake of the cashfor-MLA scandal in which BJP is demanding an investigation by the central agency.

Dismissing the charges, BJP functionaries moved the Telangana high court and requested a CBI inquiry. Under Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, general consent of a state government is necessary for CBI to operate in that state.

Performance to be criterion for schools to add sections

The state education department has decided that secondary and higher secondary schools will be allowed to have more than six sections per standard only if they register more than 50% results in board exams for three consecutive years.
Earlier, the rule stipulated 75% results for additional sections. However, there was no clarity on which three-year tenure will be considered.

Sources said that the government, in its 2012 notification, had stated that schools should record 75% or above results if they wanted to add more than six sections per standard in Classes 9-12. Since there was no clarity on the tenure, many schools thought that last yearsboard examresults would be considered to grant them the benefit of additional sections.

Goa has fifth best rural roads in country, 3 times the national average

Goa is among the five top states and Union territories in the country with the best coverage of roads in rural areas at 4,336km of road for every 1,000sqkm, as per statistics of the Union ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH). The states rural road density was found to be almost three times the national average for rural areas, which stood at 1,458km for every 1,000sqkm.

Goa is placed fifth after Lakshadweep (7,589km), Puducherry (5,623km), Kerala (4,852km) and Assam (4,749km) in rural road coverage in India.

Road coverage is seen as a critical sector by MoRTH that generates employment and supports infrastructure and acts as feeder to other modes of transportation.

Maharashtra lifts stay on land allotment proposals

The state government last week lifted the stay on land allotment decisions taken by theMaharashtra Industrial Development Corporation(MIDC) on June 1.

The stay was imposed on August 8 after the chief ministers office sought a review of all land allotment proposals by the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government. The order affected as many as 191 proposals, covering 697 acres in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, which were expected to generate Rs12,000 crore in revenue.

Haryana to set up district-wise helipad facilities to tackle emergency like situations

Haryana is all set to become the first state in the country to set up district-wise helipad facilities to tackle war and emergency-like situations,Deputy Chief Minister.

Besides this, setting up of helipads in the police lines, all arrangements will also be made for the security of these helipads. The information system of the police is very strong, so these helipads can be accurately used in case of any emergency, said the Deputy Chief Minister.
