Guwahati reports spike in crimes against women

Crimes against Women have increased at an alarming rate in the city with 224casessolely registered at the states only all-women Police station from January to this date, as against 207 cases lodged throughout last year.

According to theNational Crime Records Bureaureport for 2020, as many as 26,352 cases ofcrimeagainst women were registered across the state last year, 30,025 in 2019 and 27,687 in 2018. Out of the total number of cases, 1,657 were rape cases and 502 were related to dowry.

Rs 640.65-cr projects approved under OMBADC

Projects worth Rs 640.65 crore were approved under the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC) for development of secondary schools, environmental monitoring and Sports development in (ULBs) of the Minerals-bearing districts on Tuesday.

The approvals were accorded in the Board of Directors meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary SC Mahapatra wherein OMBADC Chief Executive Officer Uma Nanduri presented the necessity and expected outcome of the projects for discussion. Giving nod to the projects, Mahapatra directed to provide global-level Education and exposure to the students under the secondary school development programme.

A project on application of ICT and data science for development of the environmental information system in the mining areas estimated at Rs 3.10 crore was also sanctioned.

The project envisages development of a comprehensive Database on periodic environmental data collected from mines through different statutory returns, clearances and compliances. The data generated should be used in curtailing pollution and decision-making activities regarding mining operations.

Tamil Nadu third in cases registered under narcotics act

Nadustood third in the country in terms of cases registered under theNarcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Recent data from the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) revealed that Uttar Pradesh topped the table in this aspect and is followed byPunjab.
Possession of drugs for personal use and consumption is higher in Uttar Pradesh with 4,963 cases, followed byKerala(4,582 cases), and Tamil Nadu (4,151 cases) in 2020.

Meanwhile,Gujarattopped the country in the number of cases registered for violating liquor, narcotic drugs and related rules with 2,43,135 cases, Tamil Nadu came second with 1,74,032 cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh (94,298) and Uttar Pradesh (90,216).

Government augments district coordination committees

With agencies such asPWD,KIIFBandRKIundertaking multipleinfrastructure projectsand the lack of coordination between them delaying the execution of such projects, government has decided to augmentdistrict coordination committeesby christening them as theinter-agency linking body.

As per the GO issued in this regard last week, in addition to district coordination committees chaired by collectors that have been put in charge of all public work projects in the district, two state-level nodal officers were appointed for smoothening the task, putting them in charge of seven districts each.

Mission mode implementation of these projects is vital to reap the envisaged benefits of investments. But, it is seen that the progress of projects is affected due to the delay in making land available, land acquisition, utility shifting, survey, demarcation and lack of sufficient coordination between various authorities.

Karnataka: Bill banning online gambling likely to face legal hurdles

Experts say theKarnatakaPolice (Amendment)Bill, 2021, which seeks to ban online gambling and betting, lacks clarity and may face legal challenges, particularly over how authorities identify an activity, website or app as problematic.

The bill, passed in the assembly on Tuesday, does not specify which games or entities with gambling/betting Elements will be banned. But officials of the law department said that the new norms were likely to affect some prominent platforms games related to cricket and cards.

The Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS), a selfregulatory body, said that though well-intentioned, the bill had created confusion and uncertainty among legitimate businesses in the segment.

Telanganais all set to emerge as a keyjute manufacturinghub in the country with the state bagging investments worth nearly Rs 900 crore from three players that will be setting upjutemills that will create nearly 10,400 direct jobs.

While Gloster Limited (formerly Kettlewell Bullen & Co Ltd that was founded in 1872) will invest around Rs 330 crore in setting up a jute mill in Warangal district that will generate 3,348 direct jobs, MBG Commodities will pump in about Rs 254 crore to set up a modern integrated jute mill in Sircilla district that will create direct EMPLOYMENT for around 3400 people.

‘s Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture minister S Niranjan Reddy said the state will encourage farmers to take up jute cultivation to meet the requirements of the jute mills not just because agricultural produce is increasing but also because jute can emerge as a sustainable alternative to plastic.

The state government has cleared the disinvestment proposal of Gangavaram Port Ltd (GPL) and approved the recommendations of the empowered group of secretaries (EGoS), allowing Adani ports and special economic zone (APSEZ) to acquire it.

The government issued a gazette notification on Friday giving its clearance to the , and also authorised the chief executive officer of AP maritime board to take further action on the disinvestment proposal. The EGoS, comprising six senior Ias officers, was constituted on June 4 to implement the entire process of disinvestment and merger of GPL with APSEZ.

The EGoS had submitted its report and recommendations to the State Government in August, which has now been approved. The government has appointed a SEBI-registered valuation advisor (KPMG), a legal advisor (JSA Associates) and a transaction advisor (Grant Thornton) to assist the EGoS in the disinvestment process. In addition to these firms,SBICAPShas been engaged as financial advisor and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas as legal advisor.

The government has also created a special purpose company on May 25 to execute the sale and transfer of government Shares in GPL.

In a bid to improve Goas position on Niti AayogsSustainableDevelopmentGoals(SDG) India Index, thestategovernment has asked 16 departments to constitute SDG cells in their respective departments. Each cell, which will include a statistician, will be responsible for ensuring that they work towards the SDG that correspond with their respective departments.Each SDG cell will consist of two to three officers who will ensure quality and timely data flow.

The department of planning, statistics and evaluation has been appointed as the nodal department for implementation and monitoring of sustainabledevelopmentGoals at the state level. India is a signatory to the resolution of the 2030 Agenda for , which adopts 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In line with this, the state governments have also adopted these SDGs.
Goa moved from the seventh position in the SDG India Index for 2019 to third place in the third edition of the Niti Aayogs Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index for 202021. Three points behind Kerala, Goa has a score of 72 points, as against 65 points in 2019 and 64 points in 2018. Goa shared the third spot with Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttarakhand.

While immersions inartificial pondsrose compared to previous years, still overall, less than half the total number of idols were immersed there this year. Approximately 2.65 lakh kg of nirmalya (flowers) was collected across the city.

For the first time, the Lalbaugcha Raja was immersed on Anant Chaturdashi rather than the morning after. Neighbouring Ganesh Gully completed visarjan around 12.30pm.
Interestingly other major mandals like Sahyadri Krida Mandal at Tilak Nagar chose to build an artificial tank bedecked with flowers in their precinct, and performed the ritual on site. Spokesman Jaya Shetty said, We would earlier travel 12-14 hours to the seashore. Our message is that even big mandals are following the government’s guidelines.

Haryana Government will set up an Export Promotion Bureau in the state to promote exports, which will provide institutional support to the exporters.

Director General, Industries and Commerce Department, Dr Saket Kumar shared this information at the inauguration of the two-day ‘Vanijya Utsav’ being organized in Gurugram.

He said that District Level Export Promotion Committee (DLEPC) has been constituted in every district of the state to facilitate exports. Similarly, a Trade Promotion Committee has been constituted at the state-level to review all types of trade related issues like , agricultural exports and service exports, he said.

Sharing more information about the facilities and incentives being given to entrepreneurs and exporters in Haryana through a presentation, Dr Saket said that Haryana is a fast growing economy with an export value of Rs 1,74,572 crore in the year 2020-21.
