Tripura CM opens states 1st English-medium govt college

Tripurachief ministerManik Sahaalong with education ministerRatan Lal Nathon Tuesday inaugurated the first English medium general degree college of the state in the city with 100 intake capacity.

The five basic subjects of the arts stream, including compulsory Bengali and English, are being taught this academic session that began last month. Renovating an old Teachers Training College, the Tripura government has built the general degree college at the cost of over Rs 1 crore as committed in the budget this year.

In the first step, the exact syllabus of CBSE has been introduced, followed by recruiting a large number of trained teachers and training up to over 40,000 existing teachers of government schools and also improving the student-teacher ratio going by the national average.

Govt to increase Assam’s forest cover from 36% to 38% in next 5 years: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assamchief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government has decided to increase theforest coverof Assam from 36% to 38% in the coming five years by way of large-scale plantations.

The seminar is being attended by judges of Supreme Court and chief justice of several high courts. Sarma said the government has strengthened and increased protected area network by upgrading reserve forests to national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.

Odisha creates separate entity to deal with judicial infrastructure

Odishagovernment has created a separate entityJudicial Infrastructure Management Agency(JIMA) to deal with judicial infrastructure in the state.
It is a dedicated division established by the state government in consultation with the Orissa high court for the effective management of judicial infrastructure.

The idea of JIMA was mooted in the recent conference of chief justices held in April this year in New Delhi. The physical infrastructure such as the buildings of the court complexes and residential quarters of judges and staff form an important component of the judicial infrastructure.

In a first, MBBS students to get textbooks in Tamil

MBBS students joining college this year will get textbooks inTamilfor the first time. Four textbooks have been translated and will be released before December.

To give better conceptual clarity and understanding for Tamil medium students, the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation (TNTESC) is planning to bring out 25 medical textbooks in Tamil.

Though can students’ study Tamil textbooks, they must write their exams only in English as per the existing regulations.

KTDC plans to give Kochi marina a major revamp

With the attempts to find a suitable bidder interested in operatingKochiInternational Marina, which is in a dilapidated state for years, having reached nowhere,Kerala Tourism Development Corporation(KTDC) has finally decided to operate the marina on its own and give it a major revamp. TheKTDC, which owns the property, has set the ball rolling for fully reconstructing and overhauling the marina and is currently in the process of finalizing a cost estimate needed for the project, which is likely to be to the tune of crores of rupees.

Kochi International Marina is a KTDC venture located on the eastern coast of Bolgatty Island in the Bolgatty Palace Heritage Hotel. Launched in 2010 with berthing facilities for 40 yachts at a time with the aim of promoting the states yacht tourism potential, it was supposed to be a full-fledged marina of international standards. It is the only international marina in India that the yachting community considers as a gateway to Red Sea Passage. To a certain extent the project was successful with numerous yachts having docked at the marina over these years.

Karnataka govt to permit sale of sick industries

The government has decided to allow takeover or sale of sick industries in the state if the unit used 51% of its allotted land, ran for two years or more, and cleared all government dues before going sick.

Currently, neither sale nor takeover of sick industries is permitted till their lease-to-sale period of 10 years (earlier it was 99 years) is over. As a result, owners of thousands of sick industries were in a fix as they had no right over the property.

The state has also decided to reduce the amount to be deposited by industrialists from the existing 40% to 25% of the total land cost at the time of issuance of preliminary notification.

Telangana: 2,000-year-old stone bowl of Satavahana era found

A group of researchers has found a stone bowl belonging to the earlySatavahanaperiod, theTelugukings who ruled a vast area in the south, including the present Telugu states of Telangana andAndhra Pradesh.

The bowl with inscriptions in Prakrit written inBrahmialphabets was discovered during an excavation in Banswada town of Kamareddy district. The researchers, who discovered the bowl, dated the ancient utensil to 1st century BCE. The bowl was discovered on a mound adjacent to Adi Basaveswara temple, which is part of Kavi Manavallayya Matham of Bichkunda.

The stone bowl found at Borlam village near Banswada is the latest in a series of artefacts discovered from theManjirariver valley in Telangana. Most of the objects found so far from the valley belonged to the presence of the Satavahana regime.

The Satavahana kings were the first major rulers of the Deccan with trade links to Romans. They are considered as the first Andhra rulers.

Power utilities in Andhra Pradesh on capacity expansion spree

The power utilities of the state have concentrated on enhancing power generation capacity and reducing transmission and distribution losses.

This installation capacity augmentation has been planned as the energy department anticipates that the daily demand may increase to 250 million units by March 2023 inAndhra Pradesh. The transmission losses that were around 3.1% in 2018-19 have been reduced to 2.8% this year.

According to the officials, the 800 MW supercritical unit at Krishnapatnam generates 19 million units of electricity per day, coming in handy for the utilities to meet the rapidly increasing electricity grid demand.

The SDSTPS plant is the first supercritical thermal power plant in the country in the public sector. In the first phase, two 800 MW units were launched. The Covid-19 pandemic has delayed the project works.

Goa to put spotlight on marine wildlife, moots intertidal walks

After losing big projects, Maharashtra gets Rs500 crore electronics cluster

The Centre has approved a Rs 500 crore project to makeRanjangaonin Pune an electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC) in a move that is being seen as an apparent bid to make up forMaharashtralosing back-to-back big-ticket projects to Gujarat.

Announcing the project, junior electronics and IT ministerRajeev Chandrasekharon Monday said the cluster will attract major investments from manufacturers, generate thousands of jobs and put the state in the league of locations that have emerged as vibrant electronics production hubs in the country.

The EMC is targeted to attract an investment of over Rs 2,000-3,000crore, with the potential to create 5,000-6,000 jobs in the coming years. India is making an all-out effort to position itself as an electronics and tech manufacturing powerhouse and a global partner in supply chains.
