Tripura eyes self-reliance in animal feed production

Besides setting a target to become self-reliant in fish, egg, meat and milk production in the next five years, theTripuragovernment announced its plan to embark on the mission to become self-reliant on animal feed, which will boost the agrarian economy and create more EMPLOYMENT, said minister for animal resource development, and fisheriesSudhangshu Das.

He said the departments have initiated measures to increase the production of fish, meat, eggs and milk in the state and urged the officials to work on a mission mode with a positive mindset to achieve the target, as still Tripura is importing all those items from other states despite having all potential.

The minister suggested engaging the farmers at the grassroots level and encouraging them to get involved in activities where they will get immediate financial benefits and promote in animal husbandry in the long run.

Das urged officials to explore utilising water bodies to enhance fish production and prioritize regular vaccination to prevent Livestock diseases. As many as 7,713 fish farmers in North Tripura district received benefits under the Chief Ministers Swanirbhar Parivar Yojana while seven self-help groups and Cooperative Societies got assistance for fish farming.

The Tripura government has targeted to bring equilibrium in the demand and supply of fish in the state within the next few years cutting down the dependency on Bangladesh, Assam, West Bengal andAndhra Pradesh. Despite the creation of a huge number of water bodies and scaling up commercial fish production, Tripura is still short of the one-third requirement of the demand, he said.

Tripura has the potential of cultivating fish seeds and production of fish food, innovation of technology, and creation of new species of fish. About Rs 700 crore is spent on importing fish, which the State Government has targeted to plug by increasing domestic fish production.


Four cyber police stations to be set up in Assam

In a bid to prevent cybercrime in the state, the Assam Police will be setting up four cyber police stations. The decision was taken in view of the rising cybercrime cases in the State. According to a notification issued by the Home and Political Department of the Government of Assam, the cyber police station/outposts will be established for effective maintenance and prevention of Cyber Crime offences committed under the Information Technology Act and other related offences under any other law

There will be two cyber police stations at the CID headquarters in Guwahati and the office of the City Police Commissioner. A DSP-level officer will inspect both the police stations in Guwahati. The Cyber PoliceStation at Police Commissionerate, Guwahati will work independently in the jurisdiction under the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, whereas the proposed CID cyber Police Station will have jurisdiction all over the territory of the state of Assam except for the areas falling under the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati.

Odisha’s debt rises but within stipulated limit

The debt level of Odisha is now within stipulated limit and it is expected to increase by 4% by the end of financial year 2026-27, according to a status paper published by the Odisha Finance Department on .

As per the report, the total outstanding public debt of the State as per the revised estimate for the financial year 2022-23 stood at Rs 97,037 crore which is 12.7% of the States Gross Domestic Product (GSDP). Over the next three years, total public debt is expected to increase to approximately 16.7% of GSDP in 2026-27, which will be within the stipulated limit of 25%.

The Fifteenth Finance Commission and Odisha FRBM Act, 2005 prescribe for limiting the debt to GSDP ratio within 25%. The current debt level of Odisha is within the stipulated debt limit. Besides, the debt stock is considerably lower than that of the Central Government which is 57% of GDP as per the Union Budget.

This will be driven by Fiscal Deficit arising on account of higher capital spending in various programmes of the State Government.

The Government has expected that the total debt stock will increase to Rs 1,12,882 crore by the end of FY 2023-24 and again it will go up to Rs 1.40 lakh crore in 2024-25, Rs 1.72 lakh crore by 2025-26 and may rise to Rs 2.09 lakh crore by the end of 2026-27.

The Odisha Government has not resorted to open market borrowing during 2022-23 because of funds from other low cost sources like the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC) and Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA).

The guarantees do not constitute a part of the State Government’s loan, but in case of default by the State PSUs, the State Government is liable to repay the loan. The guaranteed loan as a Percentage of Revenue Receipts has been reduced from 123.37 percent in 2001-2002 to 6.3% during 2022-23 against the ceiling of 80 percent.

Separate self-help groups for transgenders: Udhayanidhi

Steps will be taken to create separate self-help groups for transgenders, minister for youth welfare and Sports developmentUdhayanidhi Stalinhas said.
Speaking at an event held in Trichy, which marked the inauguration of a producers and marketers meeting organized by the Vazhnthu Kattuvom Project (VKP) andTamil NaduRural Transformation Project (TNRTP), the minister expressed his commitment to establishing these groups once he receives approval from the chief minister.

Udhayanidhi Stalin expressed pride in hosting the states first-ever meeting of its kind, designed to foster collaboration between self-help groups and marketers, thereby creating new opportunities. The products developed by the self-help groups have gained widespread acclaim due to their exceptional quality. The minister shared his personal preference for these products, often presenting them to his friends.

Udhayanidhi also addressed a request made by district collector MPradeep Kumarto establish self-help groups specifically for transgender people. He assured the audience that appropriate measures would be taken to form separate self-help groups exclusively for the transgender community upon obtaining the chief ministers approval.

CMFRI, SEAI in pact for sustaining trawl bycatch

The Central Marine Research Institute (CMFRI) will provide technical support to strengthen the sustainable harvest of 11 selected shrimp and cephalopod trawl fishery Resources ofKerala.

According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by CMFRI directorA Gopalakrishnanwith A J Tharakan of Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) on Monday, CMFRI will provide consultancy to help achieve the fisheries management target levels for these species caught by trawlers in Kerala.

CMFRI will conduct a research project aimed at assessing the stock Health and fishery performance of kiddi (karikadi) shrimp, flower tail (poovalan) shrimp, red ring deep sea shrimp, nylon shrimp, deep sea non-penaeid shrimp, squid, cuttlefish, octopus, ribbon fish and two species of threadfin breams.

The SEAI has signed an MoU with the Marine stewardship certification (MSC) for certification of these species to compete in the international seafood export market. The consultancy project aims to look at setting fisheries management target levels for these species, reporting on the incidental occurrence of sawfish, guitarfish and juvenile sharks in the trawl fishery of Kerala and providing indicative management actions.

The project will focus on the application of appropriate models tailored to the life-HISTORY patterns of the selected species and strengthening of the existing Database on the bycatch.

Kaveri 2.0 sorted, govt set to increase guidance value

Revenue ministerKrishna Byregowdarevealed that technical glitches in Kaveri 2. 0, the portal to register property documents, have been sorted out, ending months of disruption in registration of property documents in sub-registrar offices acrossKarnataka.

He also said once online registrations are streamlined in all 256 sub-registrar offices, the government will raise property guidance values. Revenue department officials say the government plans to increase guidance value by 15% to take advantage of the real estate markets expansion and boost revenues to pay for its poll guarantees.

Last year, the government had offered a rebate of 10% onguidance value to boost property transactions in a sluggish market in the aftermath of two pandemic years. ButByregowdasaid transactions are higher than last year although there is no rebate now. This year, revenue collection has gone up to Rs 3,425 crore.

State pollution board tops India with Mission LiFE, saves water

Mission LiFE is an India-led global mass movement to nudge individual and community action to protect and preserve the Environment. LiFE means Lifestyle For Environment. As part of Mission LiFE, a comprehensive list of 75 individual LiFE actions have been identified across 7 themes – save water, save energy, reduce waste, reduce E-Waste, reduce single-use plastics, adopt sustainable food systems, and adopt healthy lifestyles.

According to central data, the state PCB topped with 10,000 awareness activities, followed by Andhra Pradesh (8,000 activities), Maharashtra (2,500 activities) and Karnataka (2,300 activities) by June 5.

Within India, at least 80% of all villages and are aimed to become environment-friendly by 2028. It aims to nudge individuals and communities to practise a lifestyle that is synchronous with nature and does not harm it. Those who practice such a lifestyle are recognised as ‘Pro Planet People’.

CM Jagan to lay stone for projects worth 1.8k cr

The is planning to conduct a ground-breaking/inauguration ceremony for 28 projects worth 1.93 lakh crore Investment potential in the next two months. As part of this, chief minister YS JaganMohanReddy will lay a foundation stone for six projects worth 1,775 crore on June 22.

It may be recalled that the government conducted the global investors summit (GIS) on March 2 and 3 in Visakhapatnam. TheGIS, the state government declared, drew 387 investment proposals/MoUs worth 13.12 lakh crore with an EMPLOYMENT creation potential for six lakh people.

According to government, 14 projects have already commenced their commercial operations in the state. These 14 projects have started their businesses with 2,749 crore investment, creating employment for 7,108 persons. Meanwhile, 106 more projects are under active construction/ready for ground-breaking with an investment of 3.7 lakh crore with a potential to create employment for 2,13,513 people. If all these turn into reality, this will be 29% of investment realisation of the GIS MoUs and 35% of employment generation. According to the government officials, the other projects are in various stages of implementation such as land allotment, approvals in progress, detailed project preparation, financial closures, etc.

Goa population 15.7 lakh, 75% concentrated in urban areas

In the tiny Goa, more than 75% of the state’s Population is squeezed into urban areas, indicates the estimates of the National Commission on Population of the Union Health ministry. Goa’s population now stands at 15.7 lakh, the commission’s data shows.

The 2011 Census pegged Goa’s population at 14.6 lakh. The 2021 Census could not be carried out because of the pandemic.

As for the population density in urban areas, it “could pose significant risks on living conditions, the Environment and development, due to rapid Urbanization and the changing landscape of human settlement,” says the Economic Survey 2022-23 for Goa. The urban population in Goa is reaching the saturation level, the survey says.

Of Goa’s population of 15.7 lakh, 7.9 lakh (50.4%) are males and 7.8 lakh (49.6%) are females.

The Economic Survey says that the Growth of the state’s population has been much faster over the decade ending 2023, at 7.9%, as against the previous decade from 2011 to 2021 in which the decadal was 6.8%. “Goa has witnessed rapid Urbanisation undoubtedly due to high per capita GSDP,” the survey says. The survey adds that 75.8% of the projected population of Goa is reported to be urban for the year 2023.

As against 11.5 lakh living in Goa’s urban areas two years ago, today close to 12 lakh reside in the state’s city and towns.

The rural population in Goa has gone down from 4.2 lakh in 2021 to 3.8 lakh in 2023.

The Average decrease in Goa’s rural population over the last decade works out to be 1.2%, the survey states.

330cr for revival of Maha, Goa joint irrigation project

At the sixth meeting of the Control Board of the Tilari Inter-State Dam Project, an expenditure of Rs 330 crore was approved on Saturday for the revival of canals of the joint and ambitious Tilari Inter-State Irrigation Project of both states of Maharashtra and Goa. CM Ekanth Shinde, deputy CM and Resources“>Water Resources ministerDevendra Fadnavis, Goa CM DrPramod Sawantand water resources minister Subhash Shirodkar were present at the meeting.

An expenditure of Rs 330 crore was approved for this. It was also decided to compensate 22 additional project-affected families in Sindhudurg. Sawant proposed to increase the height of the project. It was directed to conduct a comprehensive study of the dam and submit a report. It was agreed to cooperate with Maharashtra for capacity-building of engineers in Goa.
