30,000 poor in Tripura to get monthly pension of Rs 2,000

The has decided to launch a new scheme,CM Social Assistance, for the poor who are not enrolled in the social welfare plans of either the Centre or the State Government.

CM Manik Sahasaid the cabinet has agreed to provide as many as 30,000 new beneficiaries of this scheme a monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 from October. It has also given its nod to a 15% hike in the expenditure for the payment of salaries to Anganwadi workers, helpers and Asha workers from next month.

Over 1,500 Dima Hasao farmers benefited under PM-KISAN plan

At least 1,561 farmers out of 3,636 eligible beneficiaries inAssamsDima Hasaodistrict have received the 12th instalment of their under the PMKisan Samman Nidhi(PM-KISAN) through direct benefit transfer.

Despite the best efforts of the various departments, people are reluctant to submit their e-KYC that can be done at their nearest customer service centres in the district. TheAadhaarseeding of the beneficiaries has been made mandatory so that they can get maximum benefits of the various government welfare schemes.

Govt sets up separate entity to deal with judicial infra

The has created a separate entity, called theJudicial Infrastructure Management Agency(JIMA), in consultation withOrissahigh court for effective management of judicial infrastructure.

The office of JIMA, on the premises of the circle office of the Road and Building in Cuttack, was inaugurated on Wednesday by chief justiceS Muralidhar.
The idea of JIMA was mooted in the conference of chief justices in New Delhi in April. Buildings and residential quarters of judges and staff form an important component of judicial infrastructure.

Tamil Nadu notifies slender loris sanctuary

The Nadustate forest department on Wednesday notified aslender lorissanctuary covering Dindigul and Karur districts. TheKadavur Slender Loris Sanctuary– spread across 11,806.56 hectares will be the firstsanctuaryfor the endangered nocturnal mammal.

Slender loris spend most of their life on trees. The species acts as a biological predator to pests of agricultural crops and benefits farmers. The species has wide range of ecological role and importance to play in the terrestrial ecosystem.
It is listed as an endangered species as per the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The survival of the species depends on its habitat improvement, conservation efforts and mitigation of threats.

Kerala CM mulls over giving research students from state access to labs in foreign countries

Kerala Chief MinisterPinarayi Vijayan said his government will initiate steps to make available in the state facilities thatresearch studentsin foreign universities have access to. Interacting with a section of doctors and research students atBergenin Norway, Vijayan said the Scandinavian country provided its students opportunities to use the facilities in other countries for research purposes, and was of the opinion that such a model could be implemented in Kerala too.

The Chief Minister’s Office said in a release that during Vijayan’s interaction, it was pointed out to him that most students in Kerala were not aware of the research scholarships funded by the state and the Centre.
To overcome this, the chief minister has assured to set up an advanced information system detailing all fellowships and scholarships, it said.

Karnataka tourism department moots theme-based villages

The tourism department is planning to come up withtheme-based villagesacross the state.

It recently invited an expression of interest from firms to set up cultural, adventure and wellness villages envisaged by the multi-pronged Karnataka tourism policy 2020-26.

These villages will have amenities like drinking water facility, separate restrooms/washrooms for men and Women, adequate parking spaces, facilities friendly to the differently-abled and elderly users, among others.

Under the cultural tourism project, the department plans to showcase culture, rural life, art, craft, cuisine and heritage of the states rural locations and promote indigenous arts and crafts.

As per the policy, a cultural village should be set up on minimum one-acre (43,500 sqft) land. The project will have working space for at least five artisans, exhibition area of not less than 1,000 sqft to display different crafts, a multi-purpose hall for live demonstrations, folk shows, , film screening, etc.

Telanganas economic activity took a big hit during 2nd wave

Telanganaalong with West Bengal and Assam bore the brunt during the second wave of Covid-19 by registering negative values on the economic activity index (EAI).

Stating this in its latest EAI report, the Reserve Bank Of India which released such a report for the first time said had only 11 months of positive EAI values between March 2020 and February 2022, while the remaining months reported negative (restrictive) values.

The negative value of EAI was the highest for Telangana in April 2020, which stood at 2.12, among all the states in the country. During the second wave beginning from February 2021, the negative values stood at 0.18 and in May last year, the state recorded a negative value of 0.25.

While the EAI values improved after the first wave receded, the economic activity took a hit with the arrival of the second wave, the report said.

Donkey slaughter on rise in Andhra Pradesh, finds PETA

Illegal slaughter of donkeys and the sale of their meat has become quite prevalent in state as butchers are slitting donkeys throats on roadsides, under flyovers and behind makeshift stalls. Merchants are selling the prohibited donkey meat in full public view.

These are some of the findings of a recent undercover investigation conducted by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)- India inAndhra Pradesh. The team recently visited Ongole, Tadepalli, Vijayawada, Chirala, andBapatlaand documented the killings and the sale of this equine meat.

The PETA Indias investigation also found that adults are forcing children into helping with illegal slaughter, exposing them to blood and desensitising them to violence. The stray dogs consume the leftover donkey meat, skins, and offal dumped in the open. The transportation of donkeys happens late at night in order to evade the Police and to reach the slaughter sites early in the morning.
In India, killing and eating donkeys whose Population has declined by about 61% in a seven-year period violates a number of laws. Donkey slaughter violates Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and is punishable with a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both.

Goa to host National Games in 2023

The has conveyed to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) its in-principle approval to host the 37thNational Gamesin October 2023.

IOA is pleased to note the wholehearted support of the government of Goa to host the 37th National Games in 2023, hence conveying IOA’s approval to organise the 37th National Games in Goa. The Goa delegation may receive the IOA flag in the closing ceremony of the 36th National Games on October 12 in Surat, Gujarat.

Goa had signed the contract to host the National Games in 2011 but, technically, its turn was only after the 35th edition, which was hosted by Kerala in January 2015. Since then, the state sought multiple postponements after finalising 2016 as the year to host the Games.

Funds for health sector will be doubled: Maharashtra CM Ekanth Shinde

Chief minister Ekanth Shinde said that he would double the funds for the stateshealth sector, and that over 700 Balasaheb Thackeray clinics will be started all overMaharashtra.

CM Shindesaid that his top priority is to strengthen the rural Health system in the state. He made the announcement during a health programme on a news channel.

Shinde said he would start medical colleges in every district of the state with a focus on child health.
