Nagaland govt approves district status to Shamator

TheNagalandgovernment on Wednesday declaredShamatorsub-division as a full-fledged district. Till now, Shamator was a sub-division of Tuensang district. The took the decision to recogniseTikhircommunity as a major tribe of the state.
With the declaration of Shamator as a district, Nagaland now has a total of 16 districts, while Tikhir will be the 15th majorNagatribe.

Studies in tribal languages in schools of Assam soon

AssamEducation department has readied a plan to introduce four tribal languages, Rabha, Mising, Tiwa and Deuri, as medium of instruction in the upcoming academic session, said education ministerRanoj Pegu. He said a search has started for teachers who are acquainted with these languages. The initiative is a part of the New Education Policy (NEP) where emphasis has been laid on TEACHING in the mother tongue.

In Assam, Bodo, Hmar and Garo languages are already being taught in the schools. But the introduction of the four languages as medium of instruction was a long pending demand.

Government plans reopening of anganwadi centres in Odisha

The Women and child development department on Saturday asked district collectors to makeanganwadicentres ready for reopening. The department also asked the collectors to send a report on the preparedness by February 16.
The department instructed officers to ensure that the buildings of the anganwadi centres are fine and the facilities have all the equipment. Official sources said, with Covid-19 cases decreasing, the Odisha government is planning to reopen the centres across the state and directions in this regard will be issued soon.

Anganwadi centres provide pre-school training to children aged between 3 and 6 and take care of their Nutrition and early childhood care and Education (ECCE). In February 2021, the had allowed reopening of anganwadi centres with Covid-19 norms in place. But they shut due to re-emergence of Covid-19 cases in the second wave. Again, on January 5 this year, the government announced to shut schools and colleges following the resurgence of theOmicronvariant.

IIT-Madras sets up centre to work on water issues

IIT Madras is establishing a new inter-disciplinary water management and policy centre called AquaMAP to work and solve water problems in India. The centre will provide smart solutions for water problems by designing scalable models by leveraging innovative technologies.

The centre would carry out pilot studies in at least six water innovative villages or towns which can be showcased as replicable models.Ligy Philip, department of civil engineering, IIT Madras, will be the principal investigator of AquaMAP.

Kerala Digital Universityis set to offer a uniqueMTechprogramme under which every student who clears the course successfully would have a commercially viable electronic product to their credit. The programme, restricted to weekends, would be ideal for working professions, said university authorities.

The idea is to develop an ecosystem where academic activities and their commercial application would get equal thrust, said university authorities. The course, MTech in electronic products design, would thus work in close coordination withMaker Village, a startup ecosystem run by theDigital Universityin association with theUnion ministry of electronicsand information technology.

During the course period, students are expected to design, develop and commercialize electronic products under the close monitoring and guidance of the players and academicians.

New Skill and Entrepreneurship Development University in Kalyana-Karnataka region

According to Transport Minister B Sriramulu, a new Skill and Development University has been is being planned in Kalyana-Karnataka region.

The Skill development University is being planned for inclusive development of the region.

This university will be opened because, new technology needs to be adopted in all fields and there is a need of result-oriented projects in backward region.

Skill development university is the need of hour in the region in order to equip new generation and youths with latest skills.

According to the minister, there is a norm of reserving 8 per centseats for the candidates from Kalyana-Karnataka region in recruitment and Education institutions across other parts of Karnataka. But this norm is not being followed strictly. Thus, government will take steps to implement it strictly. Officials have been given a one-month time for submitting the details of vacant posts and employees who are eligible for promotion under special status accorded to the region.

The Kalyana-Karnataka Region was formerly known as HyderabadKarnataka region. This region is in Karnataka, which was part of Hyderabad Kingdom ruled by the Nizams and the Madras presidency of British India. It comprised of Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi & Koppal regions of State of Hyderabad and, Bellary & Vijayanagara of Madras province, now present in State of Karnataka. This region is the second largest arid region in India. Largest city of the region is Kalaburagi. When Hyderabad State was officially merged into India in 1948, its some parts were incorporated into the State of Karnataka. Hyderabad-Karnataka region was officially renamed as Kalyana-Karnataka in 2019.

Telangana budget may see record push for health allocation

With an eye on future pandemics and bolstering healthcare facilities,Health allocationin 2022-23 budget is expected to be Rs 1,2000 crore, way up from the current Rs 5,868 crore allocation.

The state may establish a separate corporation, similar to the Mission Bhagiratha commission, to raise loans for health allocations.

Telanganas allocation from the Centre for the national health mission in the current budget was Rs 1,010 crore. After Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and allied sectors, welfare departments, and Irrigation departments, the receives the highest budget allocation.

Medical and health expansion plans include increasing bed capacity, Oxygen treatment, health smart cards, and screening for non-communicable diseases. The State Government also intends to increase the number of normal deliveries in government hospitals.

The state government would need Rs 4,000 crore to upgrade Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) and four other super specialities around the city.

Andhra Pradesh ropes in Iskcon for mid-day meal scheme

The has roped in International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) to implement Jagananna Gorumudda (mid-day meal) programme in pre-primary and high schools.

Iskcon is setting up ultra-modern kitchens under Akshaya Patra foundation across the state to implement the scheme. Iskcon has agreed to serve egg to children and follow the menu prescribed by the state government.

Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will inaugurate the ultra-modern kitchen constructed by Iskcon at Atmakur village near Mangalagiri.

Industry body bats for nautical tourism in Goa, wants roadmap on infra creation, employment generation

Given the wide scope ofmaritime tourism, Goa needs a comprehensive roadmap for the state which focuses on creation, Skill development,EMPLOYMENT generationand standardisation innautical tourism, said the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Goa.
CII-Goa, in a report submitted to the outgoing government, said that Goa also needs sustainable Environment policies to govern nautical tourism.

The CII-Goa panel on tourism listed a set of recommendations that could help Goa diversify its tourism and harness the revenue and employment potential of nautical tourism.

CII-Goa pointed out that most pleasure-boats and yachts currently operate from floating jetties which are small and can be unsafe.

52 lakh Covishield doses lying with Maharashtra private hospitals: Data

A Health department report has revealed there are nearly 52 lakh Covishield doses lying in the reserves of private hospitals across the state, a quantity that has sparked concerns about wastage due to imminent expiry dates and low turnouts for paid jabs.

Private hospitals have now been told to send data on doses with imminent expiry dates (February-end or early March) to avoid wastage. The report said private hospitals in Pune have the most doses in reserves – 19.96 lakh doses, followed by Mumbai (17.95 lakh doses).
