Govt to set up committee for Padampur dist soon:Naveen Patnaik
The has decided to set up a high-level committee to start the process for the formation of a separate Padampur district as promised by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during the campaign for the recent bypoll.
Former Law minister in the Biju Patnaik cabinet Narasingh Mishra said there is no need for taking the matter to the Assembly or form a District Reorganisation Commission. The new district can be announced simply by an executive order as was done by Biju Patnaik to increase the number of districts in the state from 13 to 30.
As the chief minister has said that the new Padampur district will be announced before 2023-end, the state government will no doubt form a committee to consider several district demands. In an election year, it will also benefit the ruling BJD to accede to the district demands of some other regions along with Padampur to keep a check on the Opposition.
There are demands for new districts from Rourkela in Sundargarh, Titlagarh in Balangir, Berhampur in Ganjam, Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj, Anandpur in Keonjhar, Gunupur in Rayagada, Talcher in Angul, Jaleswar and Soro in Balasore, Banki in Cuttack, Reamal tehsil in Deogarh, Dasapalla in Nayagarh and Bhubaneswar in Khurda. The Padampur district will have to be carved out from the Bargarh district.
Tamil Nadu third best in promoting startups: Minister TM Anbarasan
Nadu has risen from 14th to third position in the list of favourable states for industrial Investment, and from fifth to third position among states promoting startups, said state Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSMEs) minister T M Anbarasan.
Speaking at the inauguration of the ninth meeting of the Global Organisation of Tamil Origin (GOTO) in Chennai on Friday, Anbarasan said chief minister M K Stalin had given a fresh lease of life for MSMEs, which suffered multiple blows due to demonetisation, GST and Covid.
Listing out initiatives of the State Government to help MSMEs, he said work was progressing at a brisk pace to establish export guidance centres in 10 places across the state, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Tirupur, Hosur, Karur, Madurai and Kancheepuram. This apart, work was on to set up export facilitation centres in all the districts, he said.
Kerala finance minister KN Balagopal skipped many queries on economy’
The government has ignored most of the questions raised by the opposition as well as ruling party members in the assembly on the actual position of the state finances.
Not even one third of unstarred questions (written questions and answers) to finance minister K N Balagopal in the recently-concluded seventh session of the assembly has been answered.
Out of the 321 questions asked to the FM, only 105 (32.7%) questions have been answered, shows the data from the assembly. This is in violation of assembly rules and despite the fact that the finance department itself had issued a circular on December 3, two days before the beginning of the assembly session, asking all the officials to ensure that the assembly questions are answered on the same day, without delay.
Karnataka legislative assembly clears bill to integrate all modes of public transport
The Karnataka legislative assembly passed the long-pending Bengaluru Metropolitan Land Transport Authority Bill, 2022 that aims to streamline the ill-famed Bengaluru traffic and integrate public transport Services and civic agencies under one roof for effective coordination.
Piloting the bill on CM Basavaraj Bommai’s behalf, law and parliamentary affairs minister JC Madhuswamy said the bill has been drafted to supplement the Centre’s National Urban Transport Policy.
Punjab govt launches mobile app for farmers to know veracity of seeds
The Punjab government launched a mobile app, Beej, for farmers so that they gain information on whether the seeds they buy are approved.
The need for this arose after growers in the state suffered huge losses by buying unapproved seeds.
The application will have information about sale of seeds, rate of seeds and veracity of seeds.
Himachal Govt forms sub-panel for Rs 1,500 grant to women
The government has constituted a Cabinet sub-committee under the chairmanship of Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil to prepare a roadmap for the implementation of the promise to grant Rs 1500 per month to Women aged 18-60 years.
Besides Shandil, other members of the committee are Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar and Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh. Social and Empowerment Secretary will be the member secretary. The committee will present its recommendations to the Cabinet within 30 days.
The Cabinet had also decided to form another sub-committee to finalise the modalities to generate one lakh EMPLOYMENT opportunities this year.

Collecting information from the officials regarding the model, route, fuel, and of the air service, the chief minister said that Akasa Air is starting its air service for the Bengaluru-Lucknow-Mumbai route. It should also be linked to Varanasi. This route is the most frequented. It will prove to be useful for both the people of Uttar Pradesh and Akasa Air, he said.
The chief minister said that connectivity has a big contribution in speeding up the pace of development. In this context, expressways are being constructed in the state and more and more cities are being connected with air services. The is also taking cooperation from the Airport Authority of India for the necessary Infrastructure development to improve the air services, he said.
Govts jewellery brand helps women become self-reliant
The Women members of the rural Self-Help Groups (Sakhi Mandal) of theJharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society(JSLPS) are working to promote indigenous tribal jewellery under the Adiva Brand, by selling them at trade fairs and saras melas across the country.
According to JSLPS, theAdiva Brandempowers rural women and preserves the states tribal jewellery heritage by connecting the states traditional jewellers with the larger markets with a new identity. JSLPS has been promoting women by involving them in a variety of activities through capacity building and making them earn their livelihoods and it has intensified efforts to offer dedicated markets to the jewellers. Currently, 15 SHGs are associated with the Adiva Brand and over 150 women have benefited from it, the society said. Sharing their experiences, the tribal women artisans said earlier, they used to make ornamental items daily but were deprived of the right market and exposure.
