Std I, II classes to go online in Tripura

In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases, theTripuragovernment on Thursday decided to discontinue on-campus classes forstudentsof standards I and II indefinitely from Friday while the classes ofIIIand IV will be held on alternative days.

The department has reviewed the situation and received feedback from the stakeholders, based on which the decision was taken to suspend junior classes as of now. The others will be attendingschool.

The Board of Secondary Education, Assams (Seba) flip flop on making Assamese learning mandatory has raised questions on whether the Assamese language will continue to be taught in schools mushrooming in the state.

Earlier, appearing in the Assamese subject was not mandatory to pass the Class 10 board exam in Assam under the state board. There is no change in the policy, but Sebas recent notification made it compulsory to read Assamese as a subject in Class 9 and 10 in the schools affiliated to it.

Despite the economic downturn caused by Covid, the States revenue generation has grown by over 20 per cent in the financial year 2020-21 over 2019-20.

The revenue generation in 2020-21 has crossed of Rs 56, 363 crore in absolute figures. These data were presented on Friday by Finance Department Principal Secretary Ashok Kumar Meena in a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra. While complementing the departments for good performances, Mahapatra set a target of Rs 40,000 crore from own tax revenue for the year 2021-22 which is around 15% more than the revenue generated in 2020-21.

Mahapatra also set a target of Rs 21,500 crore from nontax sources for 2021-22. The budget estimate from nontax and own tax sources had been fixed at Rs 20, 000 crore and Rs 37,500 crore, respectively, for the current fiscal. Based on the 5T principles in financial management, around 95% of the States revenue collection has been brought into electronic fold.

At present, about 95% of the own revenue is being collected electronically. The CS directed to achieve 100% electronic receipts of the taxes in the current financial year.

Thiruvananthapuram Corporation hits 50% fund expenditure for AMRUT projects

The city Corporation has finally hit 50% fund expenditure for projects being executed under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme. As on Saturday, the Corporation has spent 50.55% of a total of 357.50 crores allocated for the scheme, with some of the bigger projects under it awaiting commission.

After initial hiccups in getting the scheme started, the civic body maintained a steady pace for projects under the scheme. However, the last year and a half has been beset with delays due to a variety of reasons. Following the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, most of the projects came to a standstill, as some of the major projects depended on labourers from outside the State, many of whom had travelled back Home then.

After the Centre issued an order to repeal all redundant laws and decriminalise many for ,Karnatakahas identified 323 laws which need to be simplified or done away with.

While the Covid-19 pandemic gave states, including Karnataka, ample opportunity to withdraw or modify controversial laws, it also left governments with no voice from industries to suggest which laws were creating hurdles.

Water Board to take up door-to-door seeding of Aadhaar numbers

In order to fastpace the Aadhaar linkage for providing the 20,000 litres free water supply per month to all the eligible citizens, the has begun door-to-door enumeration of the consumers and seeding of their Aadhaar numbers with the water connection.

While the option is open for consumers to establish Aadhaar linkage online, through Mee Seva centres, or other means, the aim of door-to-door visits is to expedite the process, officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board informed.

The Board has tied up with the Telangana State Technology Services Limited for carrying out the door-to-door Aadhar linkage. Accordingly, outsourced personnel have started to visit each household to collect the Aadhaar details, Property Tax Identification Number (PTIN) and phone numbers of the residents.

Adoptions in Andhra Pradesh drop 55% during pandemic

Andhra Pradeshsaw a 55% drop in adoptions across all Sisu Gruhas (childrens homes) since the outbreak of thepandemic, compared to 2019. In 2020, around 70 adoptions took place, less than half the figure in 2019 (156). The state saw 843 adoptions between 2012 to 2021.

Around 68% of the PAPs are matched to adopt a child between 0 to 2 years of age, with the most popular choice being a male child (46%). Girls follow at 30% and the remaining specify no particular choice. Sources said that the time taken to complete an adoption process is mostly dependent upon fulfilling the specific choices of the PAP, followed by the elaborate procedure.

Goa govt brings in reforms to clean up coop sector, calls for proper management

Concerned about the rise of fraudulent practices in the cooperative sector and in a bid to ensure that all urban cooperative credit and multi-purpose societies and VKSS conduct their transactions professionally, thestate governmenthas directed that all these entities must adopt corebanking softwarewithin six months, and appoint amanagement boardto oversee their day-to-day functioning.

Theregistrar of cooperative societieshas also said that these societies have to comply with disclosure norms and release quarterly financial statements, along with information about the board of directors and management.

The government has also directed that within 60 days of a financial quarter ending, the societies will have to disclose their audited financial results, along with other statutory compliances.

State plans to give gift of jab to 33.8mn

ith the new phase of Covid vaccination for those above 45 years beginning on Thursday, the state aims to cover 33.8 million citizens of Maharashtra.

The number of potential beneficiaries rose to 33.8 million from 17.7 million after the addition of all citizens above 45 years. The state authorities said the new beneficiaries will be accommodated at the existing 3,000-plus centres.

Of the 33.8 million Population over 45 years, about 4.5 million have already been inoculated as part of the categories taken on priority after vaccination kicked off on January 16.

Maharashtra has inoculated 5,296,000 beneficiaries with first dose till March 30,while 733,000 of them have been given their second shots too. The state now aims at inoculating more than 300,000 beneficiaries a day.

The is expected to get an additional supply of 2,627,000 doses on Thursday. Until March 23, the state has received 76,01,500 doses from the Central government.

Mumbai tops the chart of vaccine beneficiaries with 1,126,000 beneficiaries (including second dose), followed by Pune (747,000), Thane (453,000) and Nagpur (360,000).
