New Meghalaya cabinet to have 8 NPP ministers: Sangma

National People’s Party (NPP) presidentConrad K Sangmaon Monday said his party will have eight ministers in the nextMeghalayagovernment headed by him, while its allies will get four ministerial berths.

The NPP’s ally UDP will have two ministers, while the BJP and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) will get one each,Sangmawho is the outgoing chief minister told reporters after a meeting with alliance partners.


The Himanta Biswa Sarma government presented a Rs 935.23-crore deficit budget for the 2023-24 financial year in the assembly.

Announcements were made for funds for promoting micro- and fresh recruitments in different departments inAssam, during budget presentation. State finance ministerAjanta Neogpresented the budget.

The finance minister said the government will invest Rs 5,000 crore to “transform” over 2 lakh unemployed youths into job creators.

Thus, the estimated transactions during the year will result in an estimated surplus of Rs 660.96 crore, Neog said.
“This, together with the opening deficit of Rs 1,596.19 crore will lead to a budget deficit of Rs 935.23 crore at the end of the year 2023-24,” she added.
Neog said the GSDP is estimated to grow to Rs 5.5 lakh crore during the next financial year from Rs 3.93 lakh crore in 2021-22.

State can become hub of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul

Last year, the global spending on maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft was estimated at 90 billion dollars. By 2029, this is expected to rise to $125 billion given that main – tenance, repair and overhaul usually accounts for 8-10% of an airlines cost. The way Indian airlines fleet strength is growing annually, by the year 2030 we are likely to have the second-largest fleet of civilian aircraft after China. With this, the size ofMROof Indias domestic and imported aircraft is set to grow an – nually to Rs 25,000 crore in the next five years, and to Rs 36,000 crore once the fleet size reaches 2,000.

Odishahas all the capabilities, manpower and soft skills required to set up maintenance, repair and overhaul facility. While no Indian airport has the for setting up an MRO, the abandoned World War II airport at Amarda Road is best suited for setting up such a facility. The 900-acre airfield has one of the longest runways in the country with around 50km of taxiway, most of which are in good condition.

TN budget proposes support systems for startup incubators

The proliferation of higher Education institutions in the state has made Nadu a hub forstartupincubation centres, but this vast Network has not translated in the number of startups that have emerged from the state. Recognizing a need for capacity building and hand-holding for the state’s incubators to achieve desired results, the state finance budget proposed support systems for the incubators.

While details of the scheme including funds allocated, ceiling limits of financial assistance and are yet to be determined, StartupTN CEO Sivarajah Ramanathan said that this would help in improving the focus of the incubation centres to specialise in high impact areas. “We will also work with any private educational institutions or any other entity that wishes to set up centres of excellence in the mentioned verticals,” he said.

Kerala offered Rs 150 crore to scrap old government vehicles

The Centre has offered the cash-strapped Rs 150 crore that can be spent in the next two months if it scraps all the government vehicles that are more than 15 years old.

It has been said that the scrapping old government vehicles is part of the larger scheme of theministry of road transportand highways (MoRTH) to reduce old, unfit and polluting vehicles in the country. The Centre has earmarked Rs 2,000 crore as incentives to the states for scrapping the old government vehicles under the scheme. The states have been placed under four categories with respect to the vehicle Population and density, in whichKeralafalls in the category-two, which would be offered Rs 150 crore each.

The state has been asked to come up with an order specifying the number of government vehicles that it would scrap, scrap them at the registered vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF), and share the proof of scrapping the vehicles with the MoRTH. After examining the state’s achievement, the MoRTH would then recommend the ministry of finance to release the incentive for the state.

In pilot project, children of 100 govt schools in Karnataka to receive coding lessons

Keeping up with the times, government school children of classes 8 and 9 in Karnataka will get a chance to learn coding. Thanks to a memorandum signed by Samagra Shikshana Karnataka (SSK) and British Council, children at 100 schools will be taught coding skills to begin with.
Under the pilot project, 200 teachers from 100 schools will be trained in TEACHING digital and coding skills using physical Micro:bit, a pocket-sized computer. The teachers, in turn, will train around 3,500 students this academic year.

The teachers will receive a three-day face-to-face training that will be delivered by British Council trainers using material provided by Micro:bit Foundation, a non-profit organisation.

As per the Unified District Information System of Education for 2021-22, around 81% of schools in the state have computer facility. But less than 7% of government schools in the state have a functional ICT (Information and Communication Technology) lab.

Andhra Pradesh govt to spend Rs 1,042 crore on supplying school kits

The AP school Education department has prepared a plan to the tune of Rs 1,042 crore to supply the students with books, uniform sets, shoes, bags, etc. known as Jagananna VidyaKanukakits – for the next academic year, 2023-24.

These kits will be distributed to about 43 lakh pupils enrolled in various government schools spread across the state. About 5 crore textbooks and workbooks will be published, including the proposed 5% buffer stock, for these children.

Bilingual textbooks will be prepared for the students of classes I to IX, including English and , Urdu, Kannada, Odia, orTamil. The unique feature is that the lessons are published in both English and the mother tongue of the students in the same non-language textbooks.

Goa CM Pramod Sawant distributes bicycles to school children in hinterland

The intends to provide bicycles to every child in the hinterland who has no access to a bus to attend school.
Chief ministerPramod Sawantsaid that his government has plans for a tie-up with the corporates, through CSR activity, to make this happen.

Sawant also said that it is his government’s endeavour to turn the state into ‘Green Goa’ and that e-vehicles and those run on CNG would be promoted.

Sawant urged the corporate sector to be liberal in funding such projects under CSR activity.

Stating that some corporates have already been contributing in the fields of Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and pisciculture, he called upon them to support the Green Goa initiative.

Maharashtra economic survey: Only marginal drop in crime against kids and women

The latest state economic survey for 2022-23 revealed there were 36,018 and 16,836 crimes against Women and children, respectively, in 2022-23, as reported by the office of the special inspector general of Police (prevention of crime against women and children).

The report showed maximum crimes were committed against children under the category of kidnapping – 9,594 in 2022, as against 9,555 in 2021, and 7,392 in 2020. This was followed by child rape – 3,266 in 2022 as against 3,458 in 2021 and 2,785 in 2020. While 364 cases of murder of minors were registered between 2020 to 2022, the number of cases of infanticide, foeticide, abandonment of newborns stood at 24, 21, and 302, respectively, during the period.

Similary, 11,509 cases of molestation of women were reported in 2022 as against 12,945 in 2021, and 12,664 in 2020. Cases of cruelty saw a marginal drop with 9,225 cases registered in 2022, as against 10,095 in 2021. A total of 7,193 cases of kidnapping of women were registered in 2022, compared to 7,559 in 2021 and 5,254 in 2020. The figures for rape cases stood at 5,779 in 2022, compared to 5,954 in 2021 and 4,846 in 2020. The overall crimes against women registered in 2022 was 36,018, compared to 39,526 in 2021 and 31,954 in 2020.

TheMaharashtraState Commission for Women, a statutory body which regularly holds hearings or public hearings on complaints filed by women victims, provides free legal aid and counselling Services. It organises workshops, training programmes and seminars on women related issues, self DEFENCE programmes, awareness about gender , legal Literacy, cyber crime, implementation of Prevention of Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & redressal) Act, 2013, rehabilitation of acid attack victims, preparation of guidelines for creche. During 2021-22, a total of 16.63 lakh was spent on these programmes while 16.22 lakh was spent between 2022-23 up to January.
