Meghalaya Cabinet approves creation of Eastern West Khasi Hills district

Mairang civil sub-division will now be called as Eastern West Khasi Hills district.

It will be inaugurated on November 10, 2021.

This move will help in ensuring that administration will remain closer to the people. It will also ensure that implementation of several schemes is more effective.

Khasi Hills is a low mountain formation, located in the Shillong Plateau of Meghalaya. These hills are part of the Garo-Khasi-Jaintia range. They connect with the Purvanchal Range as well as larger Patkai Range towards further east. Khasi Hills are located in the Meghalaya subtropical forests ecoregion. Before 1970, Khasi Hills and entire Meghalaya state was part of Assam, administratively.

Drone centre at IIT-Guwahati to benefit remote northeastern areas

Union minister of state for civil aviation, Gen (retd) VK Singh, on Tuesday launched India’s first centre for excellence in research on drone and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology and artificial intelligence along with a skill development centre for drone operation and maintenance at theIIT Guwahati.

Another nodal centre for the overall administrative drone data management for the northeastern region and AXOMDroneport, a designated place to station drones, which will be used to support cargo drones delivering urgent, medical and emergency supplies and precious supplies to remote areas of the northeast, was also inaugurated by the minister.

Having understood the remarkable potential of drones to transform every sector of the economy, the government introduced the New Drone Rules in August 2021 and followed it up with a Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) Scheme for manufacturers. Our focus is to develop India’s capabilities as an important and integral value multiplier to the global drone ecosystem,” said Singh.

Highlighting FICCI’s initiatives to further augment the development of drone technology in the country, Dipankar Barua, chairman of FICCI Assam State Council said northeast needs drone technology, especially in areas like border security, agriculture, health, tourism, mining and infrastructure.

The IIT Guwahati Centre for Excellence for Drones/UAV and Artificial Intelligence addresses a broad spectrum of technical and social concerns related to the technology.

After successfully hosting several national and international hockey and other indigenous sporting events, Odisha is now going to host the first Physical National Yogasana Sports Championships 2021-22. Organised by the National Yogasana Sports Federation (NYSF) in association with the Odisha Government, the championships will be held in Bhubaneswar from November 11 to 13. Over 500 bright and young yogasana sports athletes from across 30 States will participate in this path breaking event.

In its endeavour to create a global brand of yogasana as a competitive sport with high standards and benchmarks and supporting Indias vision to make yogasana a sport with an Olympic roadmap, the NYSF, recognised by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is consistently building a strong culture of fitness, competition, wellbeing, and growth through the practice and development of yogasana.

Yogasana sport for both male and female categories has been included in the Khelo India Youth Games, 2021.

Formed in December 2020, the NYSF has significantly and rapidly gained momentum and successfully launched the first National Yogasana Championships in a short span of three months.

Tamil Nadu rivers in ICU, state must take steps for revival: Expert

Stating that allriversin Tamil Nadu are in the ICU as they do not have a right to life due to encroachments and pollution, water conservationist and environmentalist and waterman of India, Rajendra Singh said that the state government should take steps to revive them.

Every river has three kinds of rights – right to land, environmental flow and cleanliness. As per the right of land, it should only be used by the rivers. Every river has three kinds of land parcels – river flow zone, flood zone and heavy flood zone. But all these land parcels are encroached. All the waterbodies in the state including rivers, tanks and ponds in the state are encroached with the help of the government.

Kerala Polices Cyber security and hacking conference

The annual cyber security and hacking conference, cOcOn 2021, will take place in the year 2021.

Kerala Police is in charge of organising the event.
On November 10 and 11, the conference will have two days of pre-conference workshops.
The main conference will take place on November 12 and 13, and will last two days.
“Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome” will be the subject of the conference.

A clamour seeking a dedicated development board for the Kittur-Karnataka region a la Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board is growing in Belagavi. The demand gathered mass after the state cabinet resolved to rename the Mumbai-Karnataka region after Kittur.

Activists and politicians feel a dedicated board would help leverage funds to develop backward areas in seven districts of Kittur-Karnataka region. In the general budget, it is hard to get due share of funds for development works, they say.

Telangana & Andhra Pradesh slip in logistics ranking; trail UP, Odisha

Both the Telugu states have slipped in the logistics rankings released by the Union ministry of commerce and industry on Monday. As per the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS 2021) report, Telangana that had figured on the eighth spot in 2019 has slipped to 10th position in 2021, whereas Andhra Pradesh that bagged the third spot in 2019 has plunged to ninth position trailing states such as Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab have emerged as the top performers in the LEADS 2021 index.
There were around 17 parameters that assessed the quality of warehousing, rail & road infrastructure, multimodal and unimodal terminal infrastructure and logistics services among others.

The report said states have an essential role in bringing down overall logistics costs by having an enabling policy, regulatory and institutional mechanism in place for the logistics sector. Moreover, states can gain advantage by undertaking measures to increase logistics efficiency and making the states industry products competitive globally, increasing its share in Indias trade basket, it added.

Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik agree to work on inter-state issues

The chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh andOdishahave agreed in principle to work together and resolve the inter-state disputes. AP chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Odisha chief ministerNaveen Patnaikmet in Bhubaneswar.

The chief ministers have decided that chief secretaries of both states will set up an institutional mechanism to deliberate on outstanding issues. The two chief secretaries with their teams would work and find a solution that is in the best interest of the people of the two states.

The issues included Kotia group of villages,Neradi Barrage, Jhanjhavati reservoir, Polavaram project and release of water for Bahuda river.

New edu policy on trial basis from next yr: CM

Pointing out that a 30-year-old education syllabus can no longer be taught to children and youth, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said theNational Education Policy(NEP), 2020, would be implemented in most educational institutions from the next academic year on a trial basis.

The NEP which replaces the National Policy on Education, 1986, and aims to transform the countrys education system by 2040 could not be implemented during the current academic year due to pandemic-related restrictions, the chief minister said.

Mumbai: Govt to frame policy to boost film tourism

In a bid to motivate tourists to visit a city or state after seeing it in a movie and encourage states to make their land conducive to film shoots, the centralMinistry of Tourismin association with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) organised a symposium in Mumbai on Monday, proposing a film promotion office in the chief ministers office for timely shooting permissions and a model film facilitation policy that all states should follow.

Although the I&B ministry set up a Film Facilitation Office in Delhi in 2015 that helped 120 international filmmakers from 27 countries to shoot in India since its formation, I&B secretaryApurva Chandrapointed at that only 70 domestic films made it necessary for various states to ease shoots and clearances.

Chandra said that the government would soon frame a Draft Model Film Facilitation Policy based on policies that 14 states have come up with that all other states could adopt.
